Coastal Scents #2 Review and Face of the Day

Morning dolls. I’m having a bad depression day. Today is my grandmother’s birthday and she passed away last year on July 4th. It’s hard, I really want to hear her voice and I want to sing her happy birthday.

With that said I wasn’t really feeling like doing my makeup today, I just wanted to stay curled up in bed all day but I forced myself into gear. Several things went wrong with this look, more so because I’m not feeling mentally there today.

So on to the face of the day and review.

Today’s review is on the Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Palette (regularly $20 on sale for $5 on the Coastal Scents website). There are 20 shades of berries and rose gold shades in this palette making each shade’s cost $1.00. The Revealed 2 Palette is Coastal Scents’ answer to the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. It’s not a spot on dupe for the Urban Decay palette but it’s shade range is in the same vein of theme. These shadows have less kick back than the Revealed 1 palette and seem to be more pigmented. There is everything you need to complete a look in the palette. There are several lighter shades for transition and deep shades for crease and outer v. While applying this look today I noticed straight away that there was no fall out, unlike the Revealed 1 palette had. The colors layered nicely and blended out with little effort. It’s a good solid stand alone palette and, dare I say it?, I like this palette more than I ever liked the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. I feel as though the berry shades are more pigmented and more vibrant than with the Naked 3 palette. Again this isn’t a spot on dupe for the Naked 3 but it is a low budget high quality alternative.

On to the face of the day.

Base: I primed with the ELF Poreless Putty Primer ($8 on the ELF website). To conceal my under eyes I chose Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquaclear Concealer ($26 at Sephora and on the Tarte Website) in the color Light Medium. I originally used Cover FX Custom Cover Drops ($29 at Ulta) in the color G Medium 1, but ran into some trouble with the product, more to come on that in my Cover FX Custom Cover Drops review, so I grabbed Annika Maya Cosmetics BB Cream ($14 on Brigettes Boutique website) in the color medium. I set my face with the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder ($39 at Sephora) in the color translucent. I bronzed my face with Makeup Geek Fair Skin Bronzer ($14.99 on Makeup Geek’s website) in the color Sunkissed.

Eyes:  I primed my lids with the Tarte Shape Tape ($27 at Ulta) in the color Light Medium Honey.  To set the Shape Tape I used the 2nd color on the top on the Revealed 2 palette (a creamy pale pink). For my first transition shade I used the 6th color at the top (a dusty mauve). I used the 1st color on the bottom as my second transition shade (a dusty plum light plum with brown undertones). The crease shade I chose was the 3rd color on the bottom (a reddish plum) followed by the 7th shade on the bottom for the outer v (a mid toned berry). I quickly did my brows with ELF Precise Brow ($5 on their website) and ELF Wow Brow ($4 on their website) both in the color dark brown, I then highlighted my brow bone with the BH Studio Pro Brow Highlighter Crayon($5 on their website) using the matte side and I set it in place with 2nd shade on the top of the Revealed 2 palette. I lined my lower lash line with the 7th shade on the bottom of the palette and highlighted my inner corners with the 4th shade on the top (a pink with silver reflect). I used the Loreal Voluminous Primer and Carbon Black for my mascara (both $5.70 at Target).

Cheeks and Lips: I used the BH Cosmetics Classic Blush 10 Color Blush Palette ($12 on their website) today and selected the pink shade that is the 4th color on the top. My highlighter is Milani Afterglow Instant Glow Powder ($9.99 at Ulta) in the color Strobelight. I also highlighted above my brow bones and the Cupid’s bow of my lip. For Lip Liner I chose NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner ($4 at Ulta) in the color Whipped Caviar. My lipstick today is the BH Cosmetics Cashmere Cream ($8 on their website) in the color  YAS.

Final Thoughts:

ELF Poreless Putty Primer just didn’t do anything. It didn’t even feel like I had a primer on and it definitely didn’t prime my pores. I feel let down as I had high hopes for this product. I rate it an F.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquaclear Concealer comes in 12 shades with 3 shades for deep skin. I love the way this one feels under my eyes and it leaves the skin looking healthy and glowy. I rate it a A++

Annika Maya Cosmetics BB Cream is really nice, a bit sticky but really nice. The finish was a little greasy but I think that was from the Cover FX Drops …. more to come on that in my next post. I looked on Annika’s website and only find this BB Cream in 1 color – medium. I am going to try it again this week to see if it is less sticky without having the Customer Cover Drops under it. So far I rate it an B+ … points deducted for not having a color range for such a good product.

BH Studio Pro Brow Highlighter Crayon is the best brow bone pencil I have ever used and I have a drawer full of them. It gives you such definition and is super creamy. Definite A+++

Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Palette gets a solid A+ from me. I would have given it an A++ if it had 1 tan and 1 brown shade since I think browns pair beautifully with plums and berries. But this palette blows the Revealed 1 out of the water.

BH Cosmetics Classic Blush 10 Color Blush Palette gets a B- from me. The mattes are a bit chalky and the pink I chose wasn’t that pigmented. Plus the palette is missing a nice coral color. Not a bad palette to start your collection with but I have other drug store priced palettes that are way better.

NYX Suede Matte Lip Liners are my favorite drug store lip liners and are comparable to the MAC lip liners. They are long wearing and glide on smoothly.

BH Cosmetics Cashmere Creams get an A+ from me. They are a a whipped creamy formula that come in 18 colors. Super pigmented and comfortable on the lips. Not sticky at all. BH Cosmetics did good with this product.

Well thanks for hanging in there dolls. Ta ta for now and remember save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

XOXO
