Coastal Scents 5 Review and Face of the Day

Hey doll hey!!! We made it to the weekend, yippee!! It’s cold out so I am trying to stay warm and not move as much a possible, the fibromyalgia pain is real today.

Today is the 5th installment of the Coastal Scents Revealed palette reviews.  Today’s palette is called the Revealed Smoky palette.  It retails for $20 but is on sale for $5 on the Coastal Scents website, and it’s not a spot on dupe for the Urban Decay Smoky palette, but it is similar to it and you can get just about the same look from either palette.

This Revealed palette did have some kick back with the matte shades and I noticed they were a little bit chalky but the shimmer colors are creamy. Finally!!! I get a dark brown in one of their palettes!! This palette could use a mid toned brown but it’s not a deal breaker since the other palettes have mid tone browns I could pull from.

I would give this palette an A+. There is enough differences in the deeper shades that you can get very distinct looks with this one palette. There is no fall out with the matte shades, however there is fall out with the shimmer shades. It would appear that the shimmer shades has a glitter base in this palette because I had glitter on my cheeks when I was done my eye look. As I have said repeatedly glitter fall out is my biggest pet peeve.

On to the face of the day ….

Base: I used the Makeup Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer ($37 at Sephora) as my primer today. I covered my under eye circles with the Tarte CC Under Eye Corrector ($25 at Ulta, Sephora, and the Tarte website) in the color light medium. I used Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer ($28 at Ulta) in the color light medium. For my Foundation today I chose Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation ($32.50) in the color Y235 Ivory Beige. I bronzed with MAC Mineralize Skin Finish ($36 at Ulta and MAC) in the color Give Me Sun and then I set my whole face (including under eye) with the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder ($39 at Ulta) in translucent.

Eyes: I primed the eyes with my Tarte Shape Tape ($27 at Ulta and the Tarte website) in the color light medium honey. I used the Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky eye palette (on sale for $5 normally $20 on the Coastal Scents website) and set the lids with the 1st color on the top (a light cream matte). I picked the 2nd color on the top (a light grey based tan) as my transition shade. My crease color is the 7th color on the top ( a shimmery taupe) and I deepened the outer crease and the outer 1/3 of the lid with the 4th shade on the bottom (a deep true brown matte). For my middle 1/3 of my lids I used the 3rd shade on the top (a copper shimmer) and on the inner 1/3 I used the 5th shade on the top (a gold shimmer with silver glitter). I set my BH Cosmetics Brow Highlighter () with the 1st shade on the top and highlighted my inner corner with the 3rd color on the bottom ( a pale shimmery taupe) and the 1st shade on the bottom (a pale pink shimmer with silver glitter). I chose the 4th shade on the top (a true brown shimmer with gold glitter) as my lower lash line color. I did my brows with ELF Ultra Precise Brow Pencil ($5 on ELF website) and the Wow Brow ($4 on the ELF website) in the color dark brown.  My mascara is Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black ($5.70 at Target).

Cheeks and Lips: I chose The Balm Shadow/Blush ($21 on their website) in the color Cabana Boy (a dusty mauve matte). I highlighted my cheek bones, temples, brow bone, and cupid’s bow with Makeup Geek highlighter ($14.99 on their website) in Midnight Sun ( a soft champagne with a slight gold reflect). I chose to go bold with my lips for a change, and lined them with NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner ($4 at Ulta) in the color Spicy ( a bright blue toned red) and filled in my lips with NYX Matte Lipstick ($6 at Ulta) in the color Perfect Red (a bright mid toned true red).

Am thinking of using this look for Christmas.

Final Thoughts….

Makeup Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer is a good primer. It’s a velvety primer that dries down quickly. You get 1 fluid ounce which lasts a long time, since you only need about 2 pea sized dollops of this primer. It’s meant to blur pores and for the most part it does do that, at least if primer is all you use. In order for the pores to remained blurred after foundation you really do need a makeup sponge as using a brush pushes the foundation back into the pores negating the use of the pore primer.  I give this primer an A-.

Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer is still one of my favorites! I love how glowy it leaves my under eye. I sometimes don’t set this one because I just love the finish. You get .23 fluid ounces but a little goes a long way. I use 3 dots under each eye and that still covers a bit of my cheek bones too.  It comes in 16 shades, 6 for deeper skin.

Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation is beautiful. I forgot how much I truly like this foundation. You get 1.01 fluid ounces and it comes in 50 shades, 16 shades for deep skin. I use just 3 pumps and that covers my full face and neck. I love the pump on this foundation. It dispenses just the right amount of product. It doesn’t set down on it’s own, you will need to use a power with this one, but this foundation is so skin like that even with powder you skin still glows. I give this foundation an A+++.

Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky eye palette was fun to work with, all be it I had glitter fall out, and in my opinion a better alternative to the Urban Decay Smoky palette. I give it an A+. If there was a mid toned brown it would have been an A++.

The Balm Shadow/Blush Cabana Boy is a great little blush. I prefer coral shades but this dusty mauve is versatile.  This matte blush goes on smooth and even it’s not overly pigmented which is good for me since I tend to over do the blush anyway. I give it an A.

Makeup Geek highlighters are so flattering and they really do go with every skin tone. I like this highlighter because it doesn’t have a glittery finish, it’s more a high pigment finish. I am definitely picking up a few more form their line. I give it an A++.

NYX Matte Lipsticks are so good. They don’t feather or transfer. I am not sure if it’s just this color or not but it stains the lips as well, making your lip look last longer. These aren’t the kind of matte lipsticks that stay put all day, but it’s comfortable and faltering. I give this an A+.
