Testing Out Older Makeup Face of the Day

Hey doll hey!!! Hope you are having a great day/night. I’m slowly starting to feel a bit better. I woke up a bit later than I wanted to, got up around 9:30.  I only just finished my makeup and it’s 3:10 pm now!! I had such a hard time doing my makeup today… everything that could go wrong, went wrong with my makeup today. I have decided to go through my makeup collection and start weeding out the stuff that I just am not reaching for anymore and then stuff that is either not my perfect shade match or just not wowing me anymore. Today I started with an eyeshadow palette, concealer, and foundation. I am testing out the Urban Decay Naked Palette (was $54 at Sephora), Stila Aqua Glow Serum Concealer (was $27 at Sephora), and Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate ($56 at Sephora). I’ll update you on what I’m keeping and what I’m getting rid of in Final Thoughts….. So let’s jump into the Face of the Day…..

20200131_143955 Base: I primed my face using the AOA Studio Wonder Skin Illuminating Primer ($1 on the Shop Miss A website) and the Tarte Clean Slate Timeless Smoothing Primer ($39 at Ulta). My foundation today is Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate ($56 at Sephora) in the color 34 Beige Medium. I concealed using the Stila Aqua Glow Serum Concealer (was $27 at Sephora) in the color Light-Medium. I set my face using the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder ($39 at Ulta) in Translucent. I warmed up my face using BH Cosmetics Brilliance Satin Finish Bronzer ($10on their website and at Ulta) in the color Bronze Babe. I set my under eyes and baked the jaw line, bridge of the nose, and center of my forehead using the RCMA No Color Powder ($15 at the Beautylish website).

Eyes: I primed my lids using Tarte Shape Tape ($27 at Ulta) in the color Light-Medium Honey and set that using a bit of the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder. I am using 2 palettes today, both from Urban Decay…. the Naked Ultimate Basics (discontinued but can be found on Amazon and at Nordstorm Rack) and the Naked palettes. I started with the Ultimate Basics Palette … For my transition shade I chose the color Faith (a muted gray toned brown matte). I then popped over to the Naked palette and used the color Buck (a dusty mid-toned brown matte) to deepen my crease. I then used the shade sidecar (a taupey shimmer) on the outer 1/2 of my mobile lid. I then used Half Baked (a gold shimmer) on the inner 1/2 of my mobile lid. I then took Smog (a chocolate brown shimmer) and placed that on the middle 1/3 of my mobile lid. I then went back and forth between Half Baked and Smog and built them up until I was satisfied. I then went back to the Ultimate Basics palette and took the shade Extra Bitter (a mid-toned dusty orange matte) and warmed up the crease and the outer 1/3 of my mobile lid. On the lower lash line I took more of Buck and smoked it out. Then I took I mixture of BlackJack (a basic black matte) and Lookout (a soft sable brown matte) and pressed that closest to my lash line. I then took more of Extra Bitter and blended the whole lower lash line. I highlighted my inner corners using Urban Decay Single Shadow () in the color Midnight Cowboy. I did my brows using Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil ($24 at Ulta) in the shade 4.5 and set the brows using Benefit Gimme Brow Gel ($24 at Ulta) in the shade 6. I carved out my brow line using Bh Studio Pro Brow Highlighter ($5 on their website) on the matte side and set that with the Wet n Wild Color Icon Single Shadow ($.99 at Walgreens) in the shade Sugar. I tight lined my upper waterline using Pixi by Petra Endless Silky Eye Pen ($12 on their website and at Ulta) in the shade Black Caviar (a deep brown matte). I lined my lower waterline using Loreal Infallible Longwear Eye Pencil ($8.99 at Ulta) in the shade Nude. I used the ColourPop BFF Volumizing Mascara ($8 on their website) in the shade Black on Black.

Cheeks and Lips: On my cheeks today I have ColourPop Super Shock Cheek ($8 on their website) in the color Quarters (a mid-toned peachy coral satin). I highlighted the tops of my cheeks, Cupid’s Bow, bridge of the nose, and center of my forehead using Flower Beauty Shimmer & Strobe Highlighting Palette ($14 on their website and at Ulta, can be found at Walmart for $5) and I used the 1st and 3rd shade (a pale champagne and a gold). I lined my lips using NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner ($4 at Ulta) in the shade Vintage (a deep burgundy nude) and filled in the lips using MAC Satin Lipstick ($19 at Ulta and at MAC) in the shade Myth (a pale peachy nude).

Final Thoughts:                                                                                                                                      I had such a hard time doing my makeup… first I tried to use the Pixi eye liner on my lower waterline and it just went so wrong, I smeared all over my lash line and kept lifting off the waterline so I has to remove my lower lash line and then because I did that I had to remove my concealer and start all over which made my under eyes look cakey and creasey. I just can’t seem to find a good dark eyeliner that will stay on my lower waterline!!! That’s so frustrating.

Now on to the products I was checking to see if I would keep or not.

Urban Decay Naked Palette: C-                                                                                                     This was the second high end palette I purchased and when I first purchased it I couldn’t put it down. I loved i so much that I just couldn’t stop using it. Flash forward 4 and 1/2 years later and this palette just doesn’t wow me anymore. If I’m not mistaken this is also a discontinued palette in their line. There are so many neutral palettes that have come out, better Neutral palettes, that I just can’t justify keep this palette around. I was underwhelmed with this palette today. There aren’t enough shade variations to make a cohesive look. There is no depth and no real wow factor with the shimmers. I have a ton of neutral palettes and I am in love with most of them…. This palette is a hard pass for me now so I have given it to my niece.

Stila Aqua Glow Serum Concealer: B-                                                                                               I have never really loved this concealer. It’s not light enough for my under eye. Because it’s a serum it feels too slick for under my eyes, almost greasy. It doesn’t cover enough and it sinks into my fine lines before I can set it. I don’t have very much of this concealer left so I am just going to use it up. I also just checked and it seems like it may have been discontinued anyway. I wont be sad when this one is used up.

Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate: B+                                            I do like the way this one looks on my face, however, it’s the wrong shade for me… way too deep. I don’t like the ball tip applicator, I end up getting foundation everywhere, and I don’t like how it seems to slip around the face if you don’t set it straight away. I wears pretty good throughout the day as well. I just was not as wowed with it as I was when I first purchased it. I have decided to declutter this one from my collection because I have other newer foundations that I just love so much more and are a better shade match for me.

Well that’s all for now dolls. Stay tuned tomorrow when I test out another palette and foundation in the attempt to curate a good makeup collection. In the meantime I hope that you have a good rest of your day/night and as always, save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

XOXO
