Loose Setting Powders:
RCMA No Color Powder $12 for 3 ounces of product on the Beautylish website (can also be found on the Camera Ready website).
This one is billed as a cult-classic invisible setting powder that is used on set by Hollywood makeup artists for years, RCMA No Color Powder sweeps seamlessly over skin, locking in a soft-focus finish that stays comfortably matte all day with a pigment-free formula that blends smoothly over all skin tones and makeup products without altering color or texture and blurs fine lines, pores, and imperfections with a silky, ultra-fine blend of talc and silica.
I love this for baking the center of my face and the sides of my nose. I’ve tried this to just set my face with and I don’t like to use it that way… it’s too matte for all over the face. 1 (3 ounce) bottle lasts me about a year 1/2. You don’t need much of this powder at all… I will say it’s a very messy powder and that I hate the component that it comes in …. I wish it came in a sifter jar.
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder $28 for .14 ounce of product at Ulta and Sephora.
This one is billed as a transparent, weightless powder to set under-eye concealer, brightens the look of dark circles, and diminishes signs of visible fine lines, a best-selling lighter-than-air powder that sets and prolongs the wear of concealer, camouflage, and other under eye products. Instantly brightens the look of the under eye area. With micronized pigments won’t settle into fine lines, accentuate shadows, even in the eye area.
Oh how I love this powder!!!! It is just heaven in a jar!!! I have not stopped using this one since I purchased it ….. and will need to repurchase it soon.
Too Faced Born This Way Ethereal Loose Setting Powder $33 for .56 ounces of product at Ulta and Sephora and comes in 3 shades Translucent, Translucent Medium, and Translucent Deep… I have it in Translucent.
This one is billed as a silky, lightweight powder that sets makeup while providing a veil of perfecting luminosity for a finish so natural they’ll think you were Born This Way.
I didn’t think I would ever love a powder more than I love the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder … but I do … This loose powder is amazing! It really does give this ethereal veil to the skin.
ColourPop No Filter Loose Setting Powder $10 for .30 ounces of product on their website. This comes in 6 shades and I have it in Translucent.
This one is billed as a weightless loose setting powder locks in makeup for all day wear without feeling heavy or looking cakey.
I don’t really like this one much. It’s very drying and emphasizes texture. I use this one sparingly on the forehead and jaw line only … I keep it away from my under eyes and the center of my face.
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder $39 for 1 ounce of product at Ulta and Sephora and comes in Translucent and Medium Deep shades. I have the Translucent shade.
This one is billed as a Cult favorite and winner of multiple major awards, lightweight, easy-to-apply, loose powder that blends effortlessly to set makeup for up to 12 hours.
This was my holly grail product for many years (until I tried the Too Faced Powder). I still love it and use it here and there but it’s now in my top 5 powders … sitting at #2.
Believe Beauty Matte Blur Loose Setting Powder $5 for .14 ounces of product only sold st Dollar General Stores and the only shade they sell is translucent.
This is billed as a lightweight, easy-to-apply, loose powder that blends effortlessly to reduce shine, blur imperfections and set makeup for a natural-look.
This powder is freaking amazing!! It’s my favorite matte powder. Lasts a long time, and makes the makeup lock in place for hours and hours.
The Pressed Powders:
Physicians Formula Natural Defense Setting the Tone Finishing Powder $14.99 for .35 ounces of product at Ulta and comes in fair, light, medium, and medium deep and I have it in the shade medium.
This one is billed as a lightweight, breathable, translucent finishing powder that blurs, protects, and perfects with our exclusive complex for a smooth flawless complexion and features the 360 Total Defense Complex to defend against harmful sun rays (SPF), blue light (RPF), and pollution (PPF) helping to reduce signs of aging, while minimizing the appearance of pores, fine lines and imperfections.
I don’t use this one as a finishing powder but I do use it as a touch up powder. It’s got a nice texture and reminds me of the Charlotte Tilbury pressed powder.
Wet n Wild Photo Focus Pressed Powder $5.49 on their website and comes in 8 shades (2 for deeper skin tones) and I have it in the shade Natural Beige.
This one is billed as Light-diffusing pigments give your skin a veil of silky natural looking perfection in photos can be worn alone, on bare skin or over Photo Focus foundation for a flawless finish. It sets makeup with an unbelievably soft, satin finish that reduces shine throughout the day.
This is a dupe for the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish powders. This is a great touch up powder.
Milani Conceal + Perfect Powder Shine Proof Powder $10.99 on their website (can be found at Walmart, Target, and most drug stores) and comes in 10 shades, I have it in the shade 02 Nude.
This one is billed as a multi-tasking miracle worker. secret weapon for complexion perfection. This luxurious lightweight mattifying powder is blended with Lily extract to tighten pores and keep skin fresh. Bamboo powder absorbs oil, ensuring you stay shine-free for hours. The vegan formula provides medium to buildable coverage, for shine control that’s perfect.
I love this powder. It’s great for touch ups but it’s also one of a few pressed powders that I like to set my foundation with because it doesn’t get cakey, oxidize the foundation bellow it, or even emphasize texture.
Flower Beauty Light Illusion Perfecting Powder $13.99 for .3 ounces of product at Ulta and comes in 4 shades, I have it in beige.
This one is billed as the perfect partner to the Light Illusion Foundation and brings FLOWER Beauty’s soft focus innovation to a pressed powder form with it’s next generation blurring pigments impart a luminous ambient glow with medium buildable coverage for ultimate perfecting.
I love this powder!! LOVE this powder!! I use it as a setting powder, finishing powder, and a touch up powder. This is a beautifully made powder.
The Balm Sexy Mama $20 for .25 ounces of product on their website and comes only in translucent.
This one is billed as an anti-shine translucent powder is formulated with revolutionary, tiny, oil-absorbing spheres to remove dreaded shine, leaving you with a soft, matte finish. So you (and your makeup) are all set!
Honestly I keep forgetting I have this one. It’s just an OK blotting powder. I’ve used it here and there but it’s nothing to write home about.
NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Powder Foundation $9.50 on their website and comes in 5 shades and I do believe this one is being fazed out. I have it in the shade Medium Beige.
This one is billed as lightweight powder foundation offers buildable coverage, evens skin tone covering imperfections, leaving behind a gorgeous matte finish.
I never use powder foundation for what it’s intended because I hate that mask like feeling I get when I use it that way … I just use this as a touch up powder and to give a little more coverage around the nose when I’m wearing bb and cc creams.
J Cat Aquasurance Compact Foundation $9.79 at Ulta and comes in 13 shades, I have it in the shade Natural.
This one is billed as a finely milled formula that minimizes the appearance of pores, an innovative hydrating powder is non-clogging that absorb and balances excess oil without looking cakey and has a water lock system to maintain moisture within the powder which can’t be found in an average compact. It blends effortlessly providing medium to full coverage for a flawless finish.
This is a full on full coverage powder foundation. This is one I am thinking I might try and use a a powder foundation one day just to try it out. With that said I love this for touch ups.
ELF Sheer Tint Beautifully Bare Finishing Powder $6 for .33 ounces of product at Ulta and comes in 2 shades light/medium and dark/deep. I have it in light/medium.
This one is billed as a flawless, natural looking, lightweight tinted powder with a silky formula that provides light coverage and sets makeup, while also helping to mattify skin and minimize the appearance of fine line.
This is a super thin powder and I use it to blot with during the summer months.
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Skin Perfecting Micro-Powder $45 for .28 ounces of product at Sephora (and on the Beautylish website). It comes in fair, medium and deep and I have it in medium.
This one is billed as an ultra-fine setting powder that blurs imperfections and visibly reduces shine.
I love this powder so much!!! I use it to set my foundation, my under eyes, as a touch up powder, and sometimes as a finishing powder.
AOA Studio Perfect Finishing Pressed Powder $1 on the Shop Miss A website and comes in 7 shades I have it in the shade Nude.
This one is billed as a velvety, finely milled soft powder that you can use to: set your makeup, brighten, contour, blur out pores and more.
This one is pretty good as a touch up powder but I did not like it to set my foundation.
MAC Blotting Powder $29 for .42 ounces of product only at MAC and the MAC website. Comes in 5 shades and I have it in the shade Medium.
This one is billed as a pressed powder that adds minimal color and texture and offers a very sheer finish.
I use this one just as the name says as a blotting powder in the summer time.
Catrice Cosmetics Prime and Fine Waterproof Mattifying Powder $7.49 for .32 ounces of product at Ulta. Only offered in translucent.
This one is billed as being able to withstands humidity and mattifies your skin for hours. The delicate transparent formula enriched with vitamins A and E ensures a flawless, mattified and refined complexion. The transparent color adapts to every skin tone.
This one reminds me of the Charlotte Tilbury pressed powder.
I really like this powder and use it for touch ups and to set my under eyes.
L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder 16HR Powder $12.99 for .31 ounces of product at Ulta it comes in 4 shades but on the L’Oreal website it comes in 8 shades.
This one is billed as absorbing excess oil and reduces shine on the skin’s surface for up to 16 hours. The lightweight pressed powder can be used alone, to set foundation after application, and/or throughout the day for quick touch-ups.
This is a great touch up powder but again …. too matte to set my foundation.
Rimmel London Stay Matte Powder $3.97 at various stores (walmart, target ..ect) comes in 8 shades and I have it in creamy natural.
This one is billed as having 5 hours natural shine control with natural minerals. Helps minimize the appearance of pores.
I use this one strictly to touch up with but I have been known to use it to set my under eyes in a pinch.
Pixi by Petra Color Correcting Face Powder $20 for .258 ounces of product on the Pixi website – comes in 3 shades cream, nude, and warm and I have it in nude.
This one is billed as a silky powder foundation with buildable, medium to full coverage that still looks like skin. hydrating treatment formula nourishes complexion and has an absolutely weightless feel – never looking cakey or heavy.
This is a finely milled powder that is pretty on the skin. I use it as a touch up powder.
Benefit Hello Happy Velvet Powder Foundation $30 for .25 ounces of product at Ulta and Sephora and comes in 12 shades and I have it in 4 Medium Neutral.
This one is billed as lightweight & buildable, it mattifies all day yet feels creamy-soft with shea-butter extracts to create a luxuriously smooth feel.
I love this powder! It’s finely milled and has a subtle sheen to it. I use it to touch up and to set my foundation.
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Face Powder $36 for .35 ounces of product at Ulta and MAC and comes in 14 shades and I have it in the shade Medium Golden.
This one is billed as a luxurious, slow-baked domed face powder with low-level pearlized pigments that provide a dimensional yet natural-satin finish. Can be used to set foundation and to touch-up makeup throughout the day.
This is my oldest face powder. I purchased it over 4 years ago and used it as a setting powder for over a year without making a dent in the pan.
It’s finely milled and gives just the right amount of coverage. I also like to use this as a touch up powder.
