February 2023 Collective Haul #3 – and Next Month’s Chopping Block Items.

Hey doll hey! How’s your day/night going? Great I hope. It’s been a while. I’ve been struggling with a really horrible flare on top of which I took a fall and have been dealing with the aftermath of that. For those of you who are not spoonies… whenever we jostle ourselves… be it a trip, a fall, or even bumping into a wall… it will not be a good time for us. With fibromyalgia I live with pain every waking minute, doing something as simple as tripping can cause my body to suffer with pain that normally wouldn’t happen with a trip. The pain then in turn causes my energy to weaken and I’ll be in bed for a few days, as was the case with the fall I took. It has been a week and I am still feeling the effects. I’m not speaking of all the bruises and the bump on my forehead… I’m referring to the pinched nerve and sore muscles that I’ve been nursing for this week. I haven’t been able to turn my head to the left or right in several days. It took a few days for me to develop the pain in the upper neck and shoulder area. I’m hoping to feel better shortly.

Ok.. enough of this pity party… Let’s talk about makeup…..

Let’s start with the items on the chopping block for the month of March 2023….

*remember as always, all hyperlinks provided are simply for fast location of the products used and not affiliate links… I just did the research so you didn’t have to. All swatches and done on clean bear skin, in one pass and with no primer*

Huda Beauty Glowish Blur Jam Silicone Free Smoothing Primer ($33 for 0.87 fl oz / 26 ml of product) claims to help  texture, pores, and uneven tone instantly fade out of focus and boosts skin hydration for a soft-focus finish.

Reason: This is the hardest primer to work with. I used just the smallest amount for this swatch and as you can see it pills up all over the swatch. It’s a very odd jelly but velvet texture that just doesn’t seem to work. There is just no way to get this one to cooperate with my foundations either. I will give this one 1 more chance and if it still doesn’t work for me I will be decluttering it.

bareMinerals Primer Time Brightening Foundation Primer (I believe this one may have been discontinued as I can no longer find it at Ulta or on the bareMinerals website.)

Reason: I know I have used this primer in the past but for the life of me I cannot remember anything about it. I don’t remember the texture, the smell nor how it wore throughout the day. To me, that means I haven’t used it in a while which means I either didn’t like it or it wasn’t memorable enough for me to want to reach for it. I’ve placed it on the chopping block to force me to test it and see if I like it or not.

J.Cat Instant Skin Brightening Tone-Up Ultra Brightening Primer ($14.99 for 2.7 fl oz / 80 ml of product at Ulta) is billed as a primer that immediately brightens & tones dull skin with its refresh formulation. With natural toning, the skin is left soft, fresh & hydrated without being sticky.

Reason: I never reach for this primer. I’ve used it a handful of times when the tiny decisions app has selected it, yet I don’t remember if I like it…

LA Girl Luminous Glow Skin Illuminator ($ for 1 fl oz / 30 ml on their website) is billed as a liquid cream based formula that blends smoothly for a natural, healthy glow. It comes in 3 shades, I have the shade afterglow (light gold).

Reason: I honestly never reach for this one when I want a glow enhancer. It’s not a bad product I just always forget I have it. I’ve placed it in the chopping block basket to force me to use it and determine if I like it enough to keep it.

Huda Beauty GloWish Multidew Vegan Skin Tint Foundation ($37 for 1.35 fl oz / 40 ml of product at Sephora) is billed as a clean, fragrance-free, buildable skin tint foundation, formulated with Squalane that instantly brightens and leaves the skin with a dewy finish with a light radiant coverage. It comes in 15 shades, I have it in the shade 01 Fair (fair skin tones with neutral undertones).

Reason: I’ve tried this as a foundation and as a base for foundation. It swatches so beautifully but when applied to the face it just disappears. IF I apply a second layer it just makes a greasy looking mess. I have used it as a glow enhancer and it works well for that, however it is only suitable for matte or demi matte foundations in this capacity. I want to test this one with perhaps a mattifying primer and see if I can get it to work as a skin tint.

LA Girl Tinted Foundation ($8.99 for 1 fl oz / 30 ml of product at Ulta) is billed as a sheer to medium wash of color. It comes in 16 shades, I have it in the shade Bisque (the 2nd lightest shade).

Reason: I purchased this one a while back and have never used it, not once. It did swatch beautifully though. I’ve placed it in the basket to force me to test it out to see if I like it or not.

Merit The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Foundation and Concealer Stick ($38 for 0.23 oz / 6.5 g of product at Sephora) is billed as a buildable, lightweight complexion stick that can be used as a foundation or a concealer for easy, natural-looking coverage on the go. It comes in 20 shades, I have it in the shade silk (fair with neutral undertones).

Reason: This again is another product I purchased but never used. It feels a bit stiff and it was a bit hard to blend the swatch out… This maybe a product I test once but then declutter.

Benefit Hello Happy Flawless Brightening Foundation (this foundation has been discontinued) in the shade 4. I was going to test this foundation since I hadn’t used it in a while, however upon swatching I realized the reason for not using it is that it’s too dark for my complexion now that I do not go to the beach. I have decluttered this one.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation (discontinued) in the shade 4.5 medium. I have used 1/2 the bottle since purchasing it. It’s a nice foundation however I love the other foundation formulas that CT carries more. I have little under 1/2 a bottle left so I was hoping to use it up in the month of march.

Tarte babassu foundcealer ($40 for 1 fl oz / 30 ml of product at Ulta and Sephora) is billed as a makeup and skincare hybrid that’s an everyday foundation for achieving an ultra-comfortable, natural-radiant finish and custom coverage with natural medium finish. It comes in 30 shades, I have the shade 27 N (light medium neutral).

Reason: This is a mini size that I got as a gift with purchase and because it’s so tiny I have always forgotten that it’s part of my collection. I’ve placed it in the basket to force myself to use it up and with a little luck perhaps even find out that I love it.

Revlon PhotoReady Candid Glow Moisture Glow Foundation ($10.99 for 0.75 fl oz / 22 ml of product… purchased at Ulta but is no longer available there… you can find other places to purchase it on the Revlon website, and it is sold on Amazon). It comes in 16 shades, I purchased the shade #120 Buff (light/medium with neutral undertones). It’s billed as a new skin-enhancing liquid makeup foundation infused with prickly pear oil for a hydrated, glowy finish, and vitamin E to help block environmental aggressors.

Reason: I seriously hated this one the one and only time I used it. It swatches so beautifully however it was a patchy mess. It wouldn’t lay on the skin evenly, I tried sponges, brushes and even my fingers…. I am giving this 1 more shot to see if I can get it to work.

bareMinerals ORIGINAL Liquid Mineral Foundation ($39 for 1 fl oz / 30 ml at Ulta) is billed as a clean, vegan foundation shown to visibly improve skin’s texture and reduce the look of pores both instantly and over time. It comes in 30 shades, I have it in fair ivory 02 (for very fair neutral skin with a peach hue).

Reason: I only used it the week that I purchased it and can’t remember what I thought of it…. I need to make room in my collection for new foundation launches so I need to test it to see if it will take up any real estate in my collection.

Physicians Formula Butter Believe It Foundation and Concealer ($15.99 for 1 fl oz / 30 ml of production their website) is billed as an ultra-luxurious, foundation + concealer, infused with a powerful blend of Murumuru Butter, Cupuaçu Butter and Tucuma Butter, from the lush, nutrient-rich Amazon. Incredibly creamy texture melts onto skin leaving a natural radiant glow, while our long-wearing, weightless formula provides buildable coverage. It comes in 12 shades, I have the shade fair.

Reason: When I first purchased this one I couldn’t stop using it… there is little over 1/2 left and I just want to see if I can use it up by the end of March.

Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer ($42 for the full sized bottle 1.4 oz at Ulta) in the shade light is billed as primer-infused for all-day wear & a healthy glow with a lightweight, natural-looking dewy coverage that hydrates skin for up to 24 hours. It comes in 20 shades.

Reason: It’s not really on the chopping block. This is just a sample sized that came as a gift with purchased a few weeks ago. I truly love the formula and just want to use this little guy up so that it’s not wasted.

Now… onto the haul portion of today’s program…. 😉

The items below are from both Ulta and Sephora:

*remember as always, all hyperlinks provided are simply for fast location of the products used and not affiliate links… I just did the research so you didn’t have to. All swatches and done on clean bear skin, in one pass and with no primer*

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Beauty Blush Wand ($42 for 0.4 oz / 12 ml of product at Sephora) is billed as a highly pigmented matte, liquid blush for a fresh, flushed look to revive your complexion. Inspired by Charlotte’s best-selling beauty light wands, dot and blend to apply. It comes in 3 shades, this shade is Pink Pop (matte pink).

FIrst Impression: It’s creamy and a bit hard to swatch but I’m sure it will blend on the face a lot easier.

It comes in 3 shades, this shade is Peach Pop (matte nude peach).

FIrst Impression: This one was easier to swatch and is such a stunning shade of peach. I liked them from the swatch so much that I purchased the 3rd shade which is called Dream Pop (matte cherry red).

Nabla Skin Glazing ($24 for 0.23 oz / 6.5 g of product at Ulta) is billed as a kaleidoscope of thin and dazzling pearls that redefine the concept of light. The Skin Glazing luminous powders have zero thickness and light up your skin with a mirrored effect and unexpected brilliance. It comes in 3 highlight shades and 4 blush shades, this shade is called: Amnesia (golden champagne).

No first impression here or for the 2 that follow. I already have a highlighter and blush in this line and absolutely love them. I trust this product so much that it’s my go to highlight and blush for special occasions.

First Impression: First of all can we talk about how excited I am to finally have ND sold at Ulta? THe point system at Ulta is so much better and I can now purchase the items I’ve been pushing down the line of my wish list. Now back to the product. I have always wanted to try out her blushes and I have to say from this swatch it did not disappoint!

Makeup Forever HD Skin Undetectable Longwear Foundation ($45 for 1.01 fl oz / 30 ml of product at Sephora) is billed as an undetectable liquid foundation that blurs and covers imperfections for up to 24 hours, powered by a micro-skin system that syncs with the skin for true-to-skin finish and has a medium natural coverage. It comes in 40 shades, I purchased the shade 1N06 Porcelain (for fair skin tones with neutral undertones).

First Impression: The finish is a satin finish that seems super pretty I can’t wait to test this one out. I have the original formula and really love that one so I’m keen to see how they are similar or different. I kept the swatch on for 5 minutes, it did not oxidize and it set down half way… light powdering so take care of that.

KVD Beauty Good Apple Full-Coverage Transfer-Proof Vegan Serum Foundation ($42 for 1.01 fl oz / 30 ml of product at Sephora) is billed as a lightweight full coverage serum foundation that blends and bends with skin for a natural, seamless finish and transfer proof wear with a natural full coverage. It comes in 40 shades, I purchased the shade light 008 (for fair skin with neutral undertones).

First Impression: It’s super pigmented and full coverage. It’s super pretty, a bit more matte than the Good Apple foundation that comes in the compact. I kept the swatch on for 5 minutes and it did not oxidize and this one set completely down, and did not budge… it was also a bit tougher to remove with just a baby wipe… I can’t wait to test drive this one on a hot Florida day.

Natasha Denona Glam Eyeshadow Palette ($69 for 0.67 oz / 18.99 g of total product making it 0.045 oz/ 1.27 g and $4.60 per shade at Ulta) is billed as Natasha Denona’s best selling palette to date offering luscious chroma crystal, creamy matte, & mesmerizing metallic finishes in a range of essential shades for day or night.

I had the mini glam and so I wanted to show you the comparison to the larger palette.

First Impressions: I love the cream to powder formula in this palette. the Duo and Multi Chrome is silky smooth and not chunky and flaky like I have seen in other brands. There are 6 mattes, 2 cream to powders, 4 metallics, 2 duo chromes and 1 multi chrome.

It comes in 30 shades, I purchased the shade Calytrix (warm sepia…formerly Bow N Arrow).

No first impression here, or for the remaining 11 listed below… I already purchased 2 other shades and am in love with this formula. It’s light, dries down to a matte finish without feeling like the desert and long lasting. The best part… when I reapply it doesn’t do that weird thing where it pills up on itself.
