DUPE ALERT!!!!

Hey doll hey!!! Hope you are having a great day/night. Today I come to you with another DUPE post. I love the Beauty Blender, but I have to replace them every few weeks at $20 a pop. I go through about 2 a month. I typically replace my Beauty Blender once every 2 weeks. I saw on a YouTube video by ShanShortcakeBeauty where she was using the huge beauty sponge that looked like an over-sized Beauty Blender. She explained where she purchased it and I promptly purchased 20 of them. It was time for me to replace my Beauty Blender and thought, if I’m going to spend $20 to replace it, I thought I might as well spend an extra $11 and purchase enough for 10 months right??? So let’s introduce you to my new favorite beauty sponge……

20200229_185456

I grade this beauty sponge an A+++!!!!

The Paw Paw Wonder Blender by AOA Studio. Is latex free. Costs $1.55 per sponge, you can also purchase a 6 pack of these sponged for $9.30. Each purchase of any of the PAW PAW products in the AOA line donates a portion of your purchase to help with the protection of animals.

Right off the bat I could tell that this was a great quality sponge. When I wet it I was impressed that it was so much bigger than a wet Beauty Blender. It was also softer and the texture of the Wonder Blender felt much more expensive than the original Beauty Blender.

20200229_185442

On the left is a slightly damp Paw Paw Wonder Blender and on the right is a slightly damp Beauty Blender. *NOTE: When they were first wet the Wonder Blender was a lot bigger than you see in this picture and the Beauty Blender was the same size as you see in this picture.

The Wonder Blender applied my foundation flawlessly and so fast and did not soak up as much of the foundation as does the original Beauty Blender. I also observed that the Wonder Blender also stays damp longer than with the Beauty Blender making being able to blend out creams longer a breeze. Also when I went back in to pat out my concealer creases before applying powder, the Wonder Blender still being damper than the Beauty Blender made blending out those creases so much easier. I had noticed when I did this with the Beauty Blender, it tended to pick up some of the concealer or move some of the foundation and concealer around but with the Wonder Blender this doesn’t happen because it stays damper creating a perfect storm for re-blending.

When it came time to bake the high points of my face, I noticed I needed to pick up less powder to bake with than when I use a Beauty Blender to bake, also because the Wonder Blender is much bigger in size when damp, it also covers a bigger amount of the face for baking making it easier to create sharp lines for baking.

Lastly, After I set my face with setting spray I typically go back over my face with a sponge to press the products into the skin further… when I would do this with my Beauty Blender I noticed it sometimes picked up product or it would cause my face to go patchy… but with the Wonder Blender this doesn’t happen, again because it remains damper longer and the texture of the sponge seems less porous on the surface so the texture is smoother and glides over the skin with out catching on patches.

Well there you have it dolls. A great dupe for a pivotal makeup helper that costs 13 times less than the original and whose proceeds go to help animals!!!

If you are interested in trying one for yourself, you can find them here.

Well thanks for stopping by dolls. Hope you have a great rest of your day/night and that you are in good spirits. See ya tomorrow…. remember, save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

Basic Face of the Day

Published December 20, 2019 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Good morning dolls. I’m still recovering from yesterday’s procedure. I am extremely sore today. I will be posting a follow up to the Radiofrequency Ablation procedure. I used a new tinted moisturizer from NYX today… So let’s get started….

Base: I primed with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer ($54 at Sephora and Hourglass website). It’s my go to primer when I’m testing a new foundation. I woke up with deep circles under my eyes so I color corrected with the Tarte CC Undereye Corrector ($25 Ulta and Tarte Website) in the color Light-Medium. I concealed my undereyes and the area around my nose and tops of my cheeks with NYX HD Studio Photogenic Concealer ($6 at Ulta and NYX website) in the color Nude Beige. I chose NYX Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil ($13 at Ulta and NYX website) in the color Beige Camel. I set my entire face with BH Studio Pro Matte Finish Pressed Powder ($9.50 on their website) in the color #230 and then I warmed up my face using NYX Matte Bronzer ($10 at Ulta and NYX website) in the color Deep Tan.

20191220_103502 (1)

Eyes: I primed my lids with Tarte Shape Tape ($27 at Ulta and Tarte website) in the color Light-Medium Honey. I used 2 palettes today. I set my Shape Tape with the 2nd color on the bottom row (a mid toned flesh color matte) of the Coastal Scents Revealed Matte palette ($20 on their website). I used the Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly palette (a limited edition palette that was given to me for a Christmas present several years ago) for my transition shade I chose Peanut Butter (a tan with orange undertones matte). I went back to the Revealed Matte palette and used the 5th color on the bottom row (a dusty brown matte) as my crease color. I then went back to the Peanut Butter and Jelly palette and used the color Peanut Butter, again, on my lower lash line for my drop shadow. I then used Bananas (a light yellow gold shimmer) on my lids. I then used a bit more of the crease color on the outer 1/3 of my lids to deepen that area. I did my brows with the ELF combo of the Ultra Precise Brow Pencil ($5 on their website) and Wow Brow ($4 on their website) in the color Deep Brown. I highlighted the brow bone with BH Cosmetics Studio Pro Brow Highlighter ($5 on their website) on the matte side and set it with the 1st color of the bottom row of the Revealed Matte palette (a light cream matte). I highlighted the inner corners with Urban Decay single shadow ($20 at Ulta) in the color Midnight Cowboy. I lined my water line with NYX Faux Whites Eyeliner ($8 at Ulta) in the color Linen. and I tried Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara ($25 at Ulta and Too Faced website).

20191220_103434 (2)

Cheeks and Lips: I used MAC Powder Blush ($25 at MAC and Ulta) in the color Pinch O’ Peach. I highlighter the tops of my cheek bones, temples, and Cupid’s Bow with Essence Pure Nude Highlighter ($4.49 at Ulta) in the color Be My Highlight. I lined my lips with NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner ($4 at Ulta) in the color Vintage (a deep plummy red). I also contoured my lips with this same lip liner. I filled my lips in with NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream ($6.50 at Ulta) in the color Zurich (a muted pinky coral).

20191220_103421 (2)

Final Thoughts…

Tarte CC Undereye Corrector: A+++                                                                                                  I 100% would crumble if Tarte every discontinued this product… I think it is even better than the Bobbi Brown corrector. It only comes in 2 shades Light Medium and Medium Deep.  A little goes a long way. All I do is dip my finger onto the top of the corrector and that is enough for both eyes. I even use the corrector on days that I do not wear makeup to brighten the undereye. It does need to be set or it sinks into the fine lines.

NYX HD Studio Photogenic Concealer: C-                                                                                     I’m still trying to figure out the best way to use this concealer. It creases so fast. It’s like you need to apply it to one eye and set it straight away to keep it from creasing. It comes in 23 colors (including 3 color correcting shades). I like the tone of the concealer I just don’t like that it creases so quick, it also emphasizes every little texture around the eye area. I think this is just a good concealer to spot treat the face and not for the undereye.

NYX Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil: B+                                                                                       This tinted moisturizer comes in 12 colors (4 for light skin, 4 for medium skin, and 4 for deep skin). It’s a light weight formula. I used 2 squeezes of the tube to cover my whole face and neck. The color is a perfect shade match for me. I tried 1 squeeze of the tube and that gave me a very light coverage , so I went back in with a second squeeze and that was perfect for a medium coverage. It does catch on dry patches of skin, but I am not sure if that’s because I didn’t stick to my skin regimen because of yesterday’s procedure, or it it’s because this product emphasizes the skin…. I’ll have to work with it a bit more to see.

BH Studio Pro Matte Finish Pressed Powder: A-                                                                              It comes in 7 colors (3 of which are for deeper skin). This is a semi-dupe for MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. There is more coverage with the Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation but the texture and longevity are spot on with both these products. I like this powder it’s a great price point and covers very good.

NYX Matte Bronzer: A+                                                                                                                          I have been using this bronzer for several years. It’s a great matte bronzer. It’s not too orange , not to taupe… it’s a perfect blend of both. It comes in 5 shades. It’s long lasting and blends like a dream… even on days where my skin is a bit temperamental I never get a patchy blend from it.

Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Palette: A+++                                                                             I am so happy I got this for a Christmas present a few years ago. I think this is 1 palette Too Faced should have kept in rotation.  It’s a travel friendly palette. It has 9 shades and a good mix of shimmer and matte shadows. The shadows blend well and do not fade, vene after a long day.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara: C                                                                                             I don’t understand the hype behind this mascara, truly I don’t. To me it’s just a basic mascara. It’s doesn’t hold curl. It’s not super black, it doesn’t thicken the lashes… it is just a mascara. There are many drug store mascaras that out do the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I give it a C because it didn’t smudge or transfer… but really it’s nothing special.

MAC Powder Blush: B++                                                                                                                This blush comes in 30 colors. The only shade I own is Pinch O’ Peach. It’s the perfect just pinched shade. I don’t know if other colors are the same way, but Pinch O’ Peach takes a bit to build up in color but once it does it’s beautiful. It blends out wonderfully. It lasts a long time and it’s a true matte color. I am thinking of purchasing other shades… I just have so much blush I haven’t had the need for a new one.

Essence Pure Nude Highlighter: A+++                                                                                        This is the perfect highlighter for any occasion.  It goes on so smoothly and gives a sheen to the skin, nothing too heavy but it can be build up for a high shine. I have been known to use this highlighter on no makeup days and it always comes out looking like a glow from within, and I have used it for a formal event and just by wetting the highlighter brush have gotten a beaming highlight. If I had to give up on my highlighters and only keep 1 … this would be the one that I picked.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream: A+                                                                                                   There are 38 shades in the range. This is a comfortable lipstick. Once it dries down it does not transfer. It is long wearing but not build-able. After having a donut and coffee I had to reapply but noticed it felt crumbly, but once it dried down again it felt fine. I really like this formula and have purchased 4 more shades.

20191220_103445 (1)

Well that’s all for now babies… hope the day finds you with tons of energy and as pain free as possible.

Remember save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

XOXO

Coastal Scents 6 Review and Face of the Day

Published December 14, 2019 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Good morning dolls. Today we wrap up the Coastal Scents Revealed palette reviews with the 6th and final palette of the series. It’s a dupe palette for the Urban Decay Cherry Palette ($49 at Sephora and on the Urban Decay website).

Right off the bat I noticed that we finally have a palette with names for the shadows! There are 20 shadows in the Coastal Scents Revealed Rouge Palette (on sale for $5, regularly $20 on the Coastal Scents website). This is an almost spot on dupe for the Urban Decay one.

This palette has 9 shimmers and 11 mattes. There was no kick back on either the shimmers or the mattes and there was no fallout when placing the shadows on the eyes.

Revealed Rouge is pigmented and finally milled. The shadows blend together nicely with no muddling and they blend so quickly. There is a nice balance between transition shades and crease shades and with this palette you will be able to get several looks.

I give this palette and A+++! Ah yes they saved the best for last. It even has a medium and a deep brown in it!!! I am in love with this palette. I love how vibrant the berry colors are and I love how there are many shades in the brown family to be able to do a simple look or a smoky look. They knocked it out of the park with this palette. I would say it’s my favorite of the series, along with the matte palette.

Now on to the face of the day…..

Base: I used Stila Aqua Glow Perfecting Primer (discontinued).I filled in my pores with the NYX Pore Filler ($9.80 at Ulta). To conceal my under eyes I used NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ($30 at Ulta and on the NARS website) in the color Medium 1 Custard. My foundation today is the Tarte Rain Forest of the Sea Foundation ($39 at Ulta, Sephora, and the Tarte website) in the color light sand. I set my face with the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder ($39 at Ulta, Sephora, and the Laura Mercier website) in translucent. I bronzed my face with the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer Murumuru Butter Bronzer ($15.99 at Ulta) in the color Bronzer.

20191214_095027

Eyes: I primed the eyes with the Tarte Shape Tape ($27 at Ulta) in the color light medium honey.  I used the Coastal Scents Revealed Rouge Palette (regularly $20 on sale for $5 on their website). I set the Shape tape with the color Caramelized (a grey based vanilla matte). For my first transition shade I chose Perfection (a light terra cotta peach matte) , followed by I’m Peachy (a medium peach matte) as my second transition color. I combined Amazing (a deep terra cotta matte) and Crave (an orange based berry matte) for my crease color. To deepen my outer 1/3 of the lid and the outer v I chose Night Rush (a medium deep chocolate brown matte) , which I also used on my lower lash line. On the middle 1/3 of my lid I used Rock It (a rose gold with an orange shift metallic) and on the inner 1/3 I used Fairy Dusk (a peachy pink metallic with a silver shift). I lined my brow bone with the BH Cosmetics Brow Highlighter ($5 on the BH website) on the matte side and then I set it with Peach Party (pale peach matte) from the palette. I highlighted my inner corners with Urban Decay single shadow ($20 at Ulta) in Midnight Cowboy. I did my brows with the ELF Ultra Precise Brow Pencil ($5 on their website) and the Wow Brow ($4 on their website) in the color dark brown. As always I used the Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara ($5.99 at Target). I lined my water line with NYX Faux Whites eyeliner ($8 at Ulta) in the color Linen.

20191214_095000 (2)

Cheeks and Lips: I used NARS blush ($30 at Ulta, Sephora, and the NARS website) in the color Dolce Vita. To highlight my cheek bones, temples, brow bone, and cupid’s bow I used Jouer Powder Highlighter ($24 on their website) in the color Citrine. On my lips I am wearing NYX Slim Lip Pencil ($4 at Ulta) in the color Peekaboo Neutral and NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick ($7 at Ulta) in the color Soft-Spoken.

Final Thoughts….

Stila Aqua Glow Perfecting Primer is a sticky based primer. This is the first time I use it although I’ve had it for 2 years… I just opened it today. I am not sure about this one. It stays tacky which really gripped my foundation, but it emphasized my pores big time. I’ll have to try working with this one a bit more before I give my opinion on it, but so far it gets a C from me.

The NYX Pore Filler is my go to pore primer. It’s not the type of primer you can just run onto the skin, this one needs to be pushed into the skin or it pills up. I give it an A.

Tarte Rain Forest of the Sea Foundation comes in 30 shades , 8 shades for deeper skin. It’s billed as being a medium coverage with a radiant finish. It’s true. It is a medium coverage and leaves the skin looking healthy. It could use a few more shades in the deep range but it’s a great foundation. I would give it a solid A-. It gets the minus because it doesn’t have enough shades for our deeper skin beauties.

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer Murumuru Butter Bronzer gets comes in 8 shades. It smells amazing! It’s like having the beach on my face. It’s a satin bronzer that has a slight orange undertone. It’s pigmented so a light hand is needed or you’ll be spending sometime buffing it out. I give this bronzer an A+.

Tarte Shape Tape has 30 shades, 9 of which are for deeper complexions. This is a full coverage concealer. It’s a bit on the thicker side and it seems to be a drying concealer. A little goes a very long way. I find it to be a little to thick for my under eyes, so i use it always only for my eye shadow primer. I would give this concealer a B.

Coastal Scents Revealed Rouge Palette gets a definite A+++ from me. They really did a good job at this palette!! Out of all 6 of the palettes this is the palette I would recommend you purchase.

My brows gave me the hardest time today…. they don’t match and they are patchy. I blame the Stila Perfecting Primer…. that and the fact that I didn’t have coffee before doing my makeup today.

NYX Faux Whites eyeliner gets a definite A+ from me. It’s not water proof so you will have to reapply this product, but it’s the perfect shade of flesh for the water line (it’s not too bright and it’s not too flesh colored).

NARS blush comes in 28 colors and are a demi matte finish. Take it from me , these blushes are extremely pigmented. I spent 5 minutes buffing out my blush today and I went in with a light hand. I give these blushes an A+.

Jouer Powder Highlighters are smooth but pick up every imperfection on the surface area. It comes in 8 shades and is not glitter based (we all know how much I hate glitter). This is another product you should build up slowly. You can go from pretty sheen to disco ball in no time with this product. The product is very smooth. I give it a B.

NYX Slim Lip Pencil gets a strong D from me. It’s too hard of a product, you end up wasting a ton of product warming it on the back of your hand just to get the product  to not skip and put down color. These are not my favorite, in fact there are many more in the same price range that work better.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick comes in 24 shades. It’s got great coverage but does not dry down. There is some transfer with this lippie, but man does it go on smooth and nourishing. I really like this product. The shades are true to  tube so it takes the guess work out of picking the shade that’s right for you. It’s not the longest lasting lip product but it’s not the type of lipstick that you will find yourself reapplying forever. It’s also not an overly sticky lip product either. I give this a solid A+++.

Well that’s all for now dolls. Thanks for sticking with me today.

Remember save a spoon for a bit of makeup.

XOXO

Coastal Scents 5 Review and Face of the Day

Published December 13, 2019 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey!!! We made it to the weekend, yippee!! It’s cold out so I am trying to stay warm and not move as much a possible, the fibromyalgia pain is real today.

Today is the 5th installment of the Coastal Scents Revealed palette reviews.  Today’s palette is called the Revealed Smoky palette.  It retails for $20 but is on sale for $5 on the Coastal Scents website, and it’s not a spot on dupe for the Urban Decay Smoky palette, but it is similar to it and you can get just about the same look from either palette.

This Revealed palette did have some kick back with the matte shades and I noticed they were a little bit chalky but the shimmer colors are creamy. Finally!!! I get a dark brown in one of their palettes!! This palette could use a mid toned brown but it’s not a deal breaker since the other palettes have mid tone browns I could pull from.

I would give this palette an A+. There is enough differences in the deeper shades that you can get very distinct looks with this one palette. There is no fall out with the matte shades, however there is fall out with the shimmer shades. It would appear that the shimmer shades has a glitter base in this palette because I had glitter on my cheeks when I was done my eye look. As I have said repeatedly glitter fall out is my biggest pet peeve.

On to the face of the day ….

Base: I used the Makeup Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer ($37 at Sephora) as my primer today. I covered my under eye circles with the Tarte CC Under Eye Corrector ($25 at Ulta, Sephora, and the Tarte website) in the color light medium. I used Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer ($28 at Ulta) in the color light medium. For my Foundation today I chose Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation ($32.50) in the color Y235 Ivory Beige. I bronzed with MAC Mineralize Skin Finish ($36 at Ulta and MAC) in the color Give Me Sun and then I set my whole face (including under eye) with the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder ($39 at Ulta) in translucent.

20191213_093230

Eyes: I primed the eyes with my Tarte Shape Tape ($27 at Ulta and the Tarte website) in the color light medium honey. I used the Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky eye palette (on sale for $5 normally $20 on the Coastal Scents website) and set the lids with the 1st color on the top (a light cream matte). I picked the 2nd color on the top (a light grey based tan) as my transition shade. My crease color is the 7th color on the top ( a shimmery taupe) and I deepened the outer crease and the outer 1/3 of the lid with the 4th shade on the bottom (a deep true brown matte). For my middle 1/3 of my lids I used the 3rd shade on the top (a copper shimmer) and on the inner 1/3 I used the 5th shade on the top (a gold shimmer with silver glitter). I set my BH Cosmetics Brow Highlighter () with the 1st shade on the top and highlighted my inner corner with the 3rd color on the bottom ( a pale shimmery taupe) and the 1st shade on the bottom (a pale pink shimmer with silver glitter). I chose the 4th shade on the top (a true brown shimmer with gold glitter) as my lower lash line color. I did my brows with ELF Ultra Precise Brow Pencil ($5 on ELF website) and the Wow Brow ($4 on the ELF website) in the color dark brown.  My mascara is Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black ($5.70 at Target).

20191213_093243

Cheeks and Lips: I chose The Balm Shadow/Blush ($21 on their website) in the color Cabana Boy (a dusty mauve matte). I highlighted my cheek bones, temples, brow bone, and cupid’s bow with Makeup Geek highlighter ($14.99 on their website) in Midnight Sun ( a soft champagne with a slight gold reflect). I chose to go bold with my lips for a change, and lined them with NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner ($4 at Ulta) in the color Spicy ( a bright blue toned red) and filled in my lips with NYX Matte Lipstick ($6 at Ulta) in the color Perfect Red (a bright mid toned true red).

20191213_093212

Am thinking of using this look for Christmas.

Final Thoughts….

Makeup Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer is a good primer. It’s a velvety primer that dries down quickly. You get 1 fluid ounce which lasts a long time, since you only need about 2 pea sized dollops of this primer. It’s meant to blur pores and for the most part it does do that, at least if primer is all you use. In order for the pores to remained blurred after foundation you really do need a makeup sponge as using a brush pushes the foundation back into the pores negating the use of the pore primer.  I give this primer an A-.

Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer is still one of my favorites! I love how glowy it leaves my under eye. I sometimes don’t set this one because I just love the finish. You get .23 fluid ounces but a little goes a long way. I use 3 dots under each eye and that still covers a bit of my cheek bones too.  It comes in 16 shades, 6 for deeper skin.

Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation is beautiful. I forgot how much I truly like this foundation. You get 1.01 fluid ounces and it comes in 50 shades, 16 shades for deep skin. I use just 3 pumps and that covers my full face and neck. I love the pump on this foundation. It dispenses just the right amount of product. It doesn’t set down on it’s own, you will need to use a power with this one, but this foundation is so skin like that even with powder you skin still glows. I give this foundation an A+++.

Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky eye palette was fun to work with, all be it I had glitter fall out, and in my opinion a better alternative to the Urban Decay Smoky palette. I give it an A+. If there was a mid toned brown it would have been an A++.

The Balm Shadow/Blush Cabana Boy is a great little blush. I prefer coral shades but this dusty mauve is versatile.  This matte blush goes on smooth and even it’s not overly pigmented which is good for me since I tend to over do the blush anyway. I give it an A.

Makeup Geek highlighters are so flattering and they really do go with every skin tone. I like this highlighter because it doesn’t have a glittery finish, it’s more a high pigment finish. I am definitely picking up a few more form their line. I give it an A++.

NYX Matte Lipsticks are so good. They don’t feather or transfer. I am not sure if it’s just this color or not but it stains the lips as well, making your lip look last longer. These aren’t the kind of matte lipsticks that stay put all day, but it’s comfortable and faltering. I give this an A+.

Well that’s all for now dolls. Remember save a spoon for a bit of makeup.

Coastal Scents 4 Review and Face of the Day

Published December 12, 2019 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey! Hope all is well with you today. Today it’s cold and raining so my Fibromyalgia is acting up. My pain level is around an 8.

Today I review for you the 4th palette in the Coastal Scents Revealed line, Reveal Matte. It’s a spot on dupe for the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette (Urban Decay on the left). The Urban Decay Palette (regularly $54 on sale for $29 for NET WT. 12 x 0.04 oz on the Urban Decay website) has 12 shadows and the Revealed palette (regularly $20 on sale for $5 for Net Weight: 30g / 1oz on the Coastal Scents website) has 20.

I really love that I am doing these Revealed reviews blind. Every day I open a new palette not knowing what it’s going to look like and being pleasantly surprised.

Today I’m not feeling so good so I did another neutral halo eye look. It’s quick and easy and still looks pretty.

Each Revealed palette I open just keeps getting better and better. I give the Revealed Mattes palette an A++. Once again it could benefit from a dark brown but I understand that this palette was meant to dupe the Urban Decay one so a dark brown would have been out of place in this palette.

This is an all matte palette. The shadows are finely milled and very buttery. They blend like a dream, in fact I would dare to say they blend better than the Urban Decay palette does, it’s not as pigmented but it’s not too far off from the pigmentation of the Naked Ultimate Basics palette.

I find that the Revealed Matte palette shadows blend together better than the Ultimate Basics palette does. I did this same eye look with the Ultimate Basics and the colors muddled together, with the Revealed Matte palette the colors stand out from each other.

Now on to the face of the day…..

Base: I primed with the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Primer ($38 for 1 fluid ounce on the IT website). I concealed my dark under eyes with the Tarte CC Undereye Corrector ($25 for .08 ounces at Sephora) in the color light medium, then I concealed the whole under eye with the Balm Time Balm Concealer ($18 for .26 ounces on the Balm website) in the color light medium. I chose IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ ($15 for .4 ounces at Sephora) in the color Medium. I set my whole face, including under eyes with the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder ($39 for 1 ounce at Ulta)  in the color translucent. I bronzed my face with BH Cosmetics Brilliance Bronzer ($10 on their website) in the color Bronze Babe.

20191212_114917

Eyes:  Primed my eyes with Tarte Shape Tape ($27 for .33 ounces at Ulta) in the color light medium honey. I used the Revealed Matte Palette and set my Shape Tape with the 1st color on the top (medium cream matte). My first transition color is the 4th color on the bottom (medium tan matte) and I followed it up with the 5th color on the bottom (light brown with orange undertone matte). For my crease and the inner and outer 1/3 of the lid I picked the 3rd color on the bottom (terra cotta matte). I also used this shade on my lower lash line. For the center 1/3 of my lid I used Hikari cream pigment ($15 on the Hikari website) in the color honey dew. I highlighted my inner corner with Urban Decay single shadow ($20 at Ulta) in the color midnight cowboy. I lined my upper lids with BH Cosmetics Power Pencil ($8 on the BH website) in the color black. I used the BH Studio Pro Brow Highlighter ($5 on the BH website) matte side on my brow bone and set it with the 2nd shade on the top of the Reveal Matte palette (a light cream matte). I did my eyebrows with the ELF Ultra Precise Brow Pencil ($5 on the ELF website) and Wow Brow ($4 on the ELF website) in the color dark brown. I used the Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black ($5.7 at Target).

Cheeks and Lips: I used Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush ($29 at Ulta) in the color Natural Beauty. I highlighted the tops on my cheeks, temples, nose, and cupid’s bow with Essence Pure Nude Highlighter (4.49 at Ulta) in the color be my light. I lined my lips with NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner ($4 at Ulta)  in the color Milan and I used Maybelline  Super Stay Matte Ink ($9.49 at Ulta) in the color Lover.

Final Thoughts….

20191212_114808

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Primer is just Ok for me. It doesn’t do much for my pores but it does lock down the foundation. I’d give it a C+. I don’t like the smell but I do like how smooth my skin feels with it.

The Balm Time Balm Concealer gets a C- for me. It’s billed as a dark circle concealer but I always have to use a color corrector with it. It gets trapped in my under eye lines but it does make the under eye look hydrated.

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream comes in 12 shades, 3 for deeper skin. I really like this cc cream. It makes my skin look perfected without over covering my skin. It doesn’t feel heavy like most cc and bb creams feel. It’s not greasy, and it doesn’t oxidize. You do however need to set this cc cream as it stays tacky. I’d give it a solid B. This is because there isn’t much shade difference between the deeper shades… in 2019 there should be more inclusive shade ranges.

BH Cosmetics Brilliance Bronzer is low key becoming my favorite powder bronzer. I would give it a A-. Again, not a lot in the range for deeper skinned beauties. I love how radiant this bronzer is. It’s super pigmented so you have to go in with a light hand.

Coastal Scents Revealed Matte palette gets an A++ from me, again I wish there was a dark brown shade but this palette is amazing! It out preforms it’s dupe by a long shot. I definitely see myself reaching for this palette much more for everyday makeup looks, or even as a companion palette to a shimmery palette. Out of all the Reveal palettes I have reviewed so far, I would say this is the palette to get.

BH Studio Pro Brow Highlighter is a dead on dupe for the Billion Dollar Brow’s highlighter. I still like the BH Cosmetics one more, because the of the price, yes but also because it has a creamier formula. I give it an A+.

The brow products and mascara are my staple go to products so I wont bore you again with them … just run ….. grab them while you can.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again … Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blushes are my FAVORITE blushes of life! They are matte, pigmented, and silky. I give them an A+++.

Maybelline  Super Stay Matte Ink is not my favorite formula. It’s billed as giving you up to 16 hours of saturated liquid matte. It gets a C- from me. It doesn’t dry down like most liquid lipsticks. It stays sticky in an uncomfortable way. If I leave me lips pressed together too long they peel away color from the contact. The color range is nice but it’s just not my favorite formula.

Well…. that’s all for now dolls. Heart you heaps. Hope the day gives you everything you deserve. Remember, save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

XOXO

Coastal Scents #2 Review and Face of the Day

Published December 10, 2019 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Morning dolls. I’m having a bad depression day. Today is my grandmother’s birthday and she passed away last year on July 4th. It’s hard, I really want to hear her voice and I want to sing her happy birthday.

With that said I wasn’t really feeling like doing my makeup today, I just wanted to stay curled up in bed all day but I forced myself into gear. Several things went wrong with this look, more so because I’m not feeling mentally there today.

So on to the face of the day and review.

Today’s review is on the Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Palette (regularly $20 on sale for $5 on the Coastal Scents website). There are 20 shades of berries and rose gold shades in this palette making each shade’s cost $1.00. The Revealed 2 Palette is Coastal Scents’ answer to the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. It’s not a spot on dupe for the Urban Decay palette but it’s shade range is in the same vein of theme. These shadows have less kick back than the Revealed 1 palette and seem to be more pigmented. There is everything you need to complete a look in the palette. There are several lighter shades for transition and deep shades for crease and outer v. While applying this look today I noticed straight away that there was no fall out, unlike the Revealed 1 palette had. The colors layered nicely and blended out with little effort. It’s a good solid stand alone palette and, dare I say it?, I like this palette more than I ever liked the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. I feel as though the berry shades are more pigmented and more vibrant than with the Naked 3 palette. Again this isn’t a spot on dupe for the Naked 3 but it is a low budget high quality alternative.

On to the face of the day.

20191210_105221

Base: I primed with the ELF Poreless Putty Primer ($8 on the ELF website). To conceal my under eyes I chose Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquaclear Concealer ($26 at Sephora and on the Tarte Website) in the color Light Medium. I originally used Cover FX Custom Cover Drops ($29 at Ulta) in the color G Medium 1, but ran into some trouble with the product, more to come on that in my Cover FX Custom Cover Drops review, so I grabbed Annika Maya Cosmetics BB Cream ($14 on Brigettes Boutique website) in the color medium. I set my face with the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder ($39 at Sephora) in the color translucent. I bronzed my face with Makeup Geek Fair Skin Bronzer ($14.99 on Makeup Geek’s website) in the color Sunkissed.

20191210_105235

Eyes:  I primed my lids with the Tarte Shape Tape ($27 at Ulta) in the color Light Medium Honey.  To set the Shape Tape I used the 2nd color on the top on the Revealed 2 palette (a creamy pale pink). For my first transition shade I used the 6th color at the top (a dusty mauve). I used the 1st color on the bottom as my second transition shade (a dusty plum light plum with brown undertones). The crease shade I chose was the 3rd color on the bottom (a reddish plum) followed by the 7th shade on the bottom for the outer v (a mid toned berry). I quickly did my brows with ELF Precise Brow ($5 on their website) and ELF Wow Brow ($4 on their website) both in the color dark brown, I then highlighted my brow bone with the BH Studio Pro Brow Highlighter Crayon($5 on their website) using the matte side and I set it in place with 2nd shade on the top of the Revealed 2 palette. I lined my lower lash line with the 7th shade on the bottom of the palette and highlighted my inner corners with the 4th shade on the top (a pink with silver reflect). I used the Loreal Voluminous Primer and Carbon Black for my mascara (both $5.70 at Target).

20191210_105206

Cheeks and Lips: I used the BH Cosmetics Classic Blush 10 Color Blush Palette ($12 on their website) today and selected the pink shade that is the 4th color on the top. My highlighter is Milani Afterglow Instant Glow Powder ($9.99 at Ulta) in the color Strobelight. I also highlighted above my brow bones and the Cupid’s bow of my lip. For Lip Liner I chose NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner ($4 at Ulta) in the color Whipped Caviar. My lipstick today is the BH Cosmetics Cashmere Cream ($8 on their website) in the color  YAS.

Final Thoughts:

ELF Poreless Putty Primer just didn’t do anything. It didn’t even feel like I had a primer on and it definitely didn’t prime my pores. I feel let down as I had high hopes for this product. I rate it an F.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquaclear Concealer comes in 12 shades with 3 shades for deep skin. I love the way this one feels under my eyes and it leaves the skin looking healthy and glowy. I rate it a A++

Annika Maya Cosmetics BB Cream is really nice, a bit sticky but really nice. The finish was a little greasy but I think that was from the Cover FX Drops …. more to come on that in my next post. I looked on Annika’s website and only find this BB Cream in 1 color – medium. I am going to try it again this week to see if it is less sticky without having the Customer Cover Drops under it. So far I rate it an B+ … points deducted for not having a color range for such a good product.

BH Studio Pro Brow Highlighter Crayon is the best brow bone pencil I have ever used and I have a drawer full of them. It gives you such definition and is super creamy. Definite A+++

Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Palette gets a solid A+ from me. I would have given it an A++ if it had 1 tan and 1 brown shade since I think browns pair beautifully with plums and berries. But this palette blows the Revealed 1 out of the water.

BH Cosmetics Classic Blush 10 Color Blush Palette gets a B- from me. The mattes are a bit chalky and the pink I chose wasn’t that pigmented. Plus the palette is missing a nice coral color. Not a bad palette to start your collection with but I have other drug store priced palettes that are way better.

NYX Suede Matte Lip Liners are my favorite drug store lip liners and are comparable to the MAC lip liners. They are long wearing and glide on smoothly.

BH Cosmetics Cashmere Creams get an A+ from me. They are a a whipped creamy formula that come in 18 colors. Super pigmented and comfortable on the lips. Not sticky at all. BH Cosmetics did good with this product.

Well thanks for hanging in there dolls. Ta ta for now and remember save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

XOXO

Coastal Scents Review and Face of the Day

Published December 9, 2019 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Morning dolls. Hope your weekend was amazing and I hope you are having a great Monday.  My weekend was good. Any DC Universe fans out there??? What did you think of the first cross over episode of the Crisis of Infinite Earths?

Well as promised I am doing a week of the Coast Scents Revealed Palettes. Today I used the original Revealed Palette. Right off the bat I have to say I give this palette a C+. There aren’t enough transition colors and this palette would benefit from a dark brown and a brow bone color. There is tons of kick back with this palette but there was no fallout or transfer. The shimmer colors do not have glitter which is why I gave it a + and the shadows are super pigmented, all but the black color that is. The black swatches intense but as you add it to your lids it just muddles down to a deep grey color. I tried to mix the black in with the deepest brown this palette owns to produce a deeper brown form my crease and it just made a dusty black color so these shadows don’t mix well. However they blend like a dream! I applied the shimmer shades with my finger and they went on buttery. It’s not a solid palette for every day use since there aren’t many transfer shade and there isn’t a darker brown or a brow bone color. You only get one basic look for this palette. I didn’t like my look at first until I finished my makeup. I think it came out cute, sort of a smokey. Another down side to this palette is that none of the shadows have names, making it difficult for my to explain what I used. So on to the face of the day.

20191209_105841

Base: I primed my skin with Makeup For Ever Step 1 Primer ($37 at Sephora), color corrected with the Tarte CC Under Eye Corrector ($25 at Ulta) in the color light medium, tested the BH Cosmetics Studio Pro Total Coverage Concealer ($6 at the BH website) in the color 111 again,  I picked up a new foundation to use today… Urban Decay Stay Naked Weightless Liquid Foundation ($39 at Ulta) in the color 41NN, set my full face (including under eye) with my Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder ($39 at Ulta and Sephora) in translucent, and bronzed my face using the darkest shade of the BH Cosmetics Studio Pro Contour Palette ($15 on the BH website).

20191209_103644 (1)

Eyes: I primed with Tarte Shape Tape ($27 at Ulta) in the color Light Medium Honey, I used the Coastal Scents Revealed Palette (regularly $20 on sale for $5 on their website) to set my whole lid with the first shade of the palette (a light cream color), I picked the 5th shade of the palette as my transition shade (which I also carried down onto my lids)… it’s a light brown with a grey undertone), as my crease color I tried to mixed the last shade of the palette (a muted black shade) with the 5th shade at the top in hopes of creating a darker brown… that didn’t work well all I got was a grey casted black, for my lids I fist chose the 5th shade on the bottom (a copper with gold reflect), then I chose to add a bit more depth and added the 7th color at the bottom (a rosy copper with gold reflect), in my inner corner I chose to highlight it with the 3rd shade at the top (a pale pink with silver reflect), I used BH Studio Pro Brow Highlighter Pencil ($5 on their website) and used the cream side that didn’t have shimmer, then I set the brow bone with Wet n Wild’s color icon ($.99 at Walgreens) in the color Creme Brulee, I then lined my lids with BH cosmetics Power Pencil () in the color black, I  did my brows with ELF Ultra Precise Brow Pencil ($5 on ELF’s website) in the color deep brown and ELF Wow Brow ($4 on ELF’s website) in the color deep brown, I made a mistake (a happy one) and reached for the Loreal Voluminous Primer ($5.99 at Target) …. I never use this product when I use the Carbon Black but today I did….I followed the primer with the Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black ($5.99 at Target).

20191209_105901 (1)

Cheeks and Lips: To highlight the tops of my cheeks, above my brow bones, top of my nose, and the Cupid’s Bow of my lip I used the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Backed Powder ($42 at Sephora) in the color Highlight 01, Coastal Scents sent me a sample of 4 of their Forever Blush ($5 on the BH website) blushes and I chose the color Romantic (a deep pinky mauve),  I lined my lips with the BH Cosmetics Waterproof Lip Liner ($5 on their website) in the color Earth, and applied ItsMyRayeRaye’s collaboration with BH Cosmetics ($9 on their site) in the color Rosey Raye.

DUPE ALERT!!! The bottom row of the Coastal Scents Revealed Palette is a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked palette. It’s not a spot on dupe as there are some shade differences but it’s close enough to get the same results.

The BH Cosmetics Studio Pro Total Coverage Concealer I think that because it has a slight grey undertone is just not the right shade for me… it doesn’t make my eyes look dewy like my other concealers do so I order it in the color 106.

The  Urban Decay Stay Naked Weightless Liquid Foundation is amazing! There are 50 shades with 20 shades for deeper skin (Great job Urban Decay). I’m so happy I purchased it. I had purchased this foundation on line but the shade that the Ulta Website recommended with was to fair for my skin tone so I went to the brick and mortal store and tested a ton of them to find the right shade…. Upon application I was a bit worried because it looked a bit dark for my skin tone … after applying the rest of my makeup I loved the way it looked. This foundation has 1 fluid ounce of product. It feels like a cross between the original Urban Decay Naked foundation and the One and Done foundation. It’s high medium coverage and goes on so smoothly, I didn’t even have brush stroke streaks on my face from the buffer brush.

BH Cosmetics Studio Pro Contour Palette is a bit difficult to work with. I didn’t take notice of the box for how many fluid ounces this palette has and it’s not listed on the website. This palette is so pigmented. In order to make it work for bronzer you have to build it up slowly. I didn’t do that and ended up spending 5 minutes blending it in. This palette does not work as a contour palette as it’s billed. The colors are too orange based.

My final thoughts on the Coastal Scents Revealed Palette is that it’s a good palette with some flaws. You are only going to get one basic look with this palette but if that doesn’t bother you then it’s a great palette.

The Coastal Scents Forever Blushes are pigmented but go on a bit patchy. There are several reasons a blush goes on patchy. It could be that the blush doesn’t work well with the foundation, moisturizer, primer, or face powder you are using or it could be that the blush is just too chalky to blend.

20191209_105938 (1)

I gave the  BH Cosmetics Waterproof Lip Liner another go today and it worked so much better than it did yesterday. This is a great nude color that goes with basically any nude you have, today I paired it with ItsMyRayeRaye’s collaboration with BH Cosmetics and I love this formula… also is incredibly pigmented and that pigment lasts a long time I ate lunch and still have the color on my lips.

Well that’s all for now babies. Remember always save a spoon for a bit of makeup.

Dupe Alert! Naked 3 vs Rose Gold Nude

Published December 4, 2019 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey dolls! Guess what? I found my first dupe totally by accident!!!

I purchased the E.L.F. Rose Gold Nude palette ($10 on ELF website) as an after thought to when I purchased a full face of products to do a review on ( you can find the review  here -> E.L.F. Makeup Review and Face of the Day ).

This palette is a spot on dupe for the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette ($54 at Ulta, Sephora, and the Urban Decay website) . The only differences are that The Rose Gold Nude palette only has 10 shadows while the Naked 3 has 12 (Rose Gold Nude doesn’t have a dupe for Liar or Mugshot), and the Naked 3 palette has .05 ounces of product while the Rose Gold Nude palette has .49 ounces of product.

ELF Rose Gold Naked Palette Swatches

Now the Naked 3 palette’s shadows vs the Rose Gold Nude palette. The Naked 3 has tons of kick back where the Rose Gold Nude does not… there is a little kick back but not enough to be a bother like with the Naked 3.

The shadows in the Rose Gold Nude are silky; even though they swatch a bit chalky they are in fact buttery. The Naked 3 doesn’t blend together as well as the shadows do in the Rose Gold Nude palette.

The shimmery shadows in the Rose Gold Nude are just a little bit less metallic than with the Naked 3 but you can make them a bit more shiny if you use a bit of MAC fix plus ($28 at MAC or Ulta) or even the ELF makeup mist and set ($5 On the ELF website), which incidentally is a spot on dupe for the MAC fix plus … ha there you go a bonus dupe!

20191204_140639

ELF Rose Gold Nude Palette

The Naked 3 palette is just a bit drier than the Naked 3 palette, as far as texture goes, but like I said as long as you use a bit of setting spray, like the ELF mist and spray, the ELF palette is about the same quality as the Naked 3 palette.

I also find that the Rose Gold Nude is more pigmented than the Naked 3 palette.

nakeds3__87007.1512435203

The Rose Gold Nude is a great quality and a great value. It’s a smaller palette too, great for traveling.

The last difference is that the Rose Gold Nude doesn’t have a mirror, for me that’s not an issue because the Rose Gold Nude is such a great palette.

Well that’s all for now dolls…. remember save a spoon for a bit of lip gloss.

XOXO
