Bioderma….A Heavenly Bottle of Spa Time…..

Published November 23, 2016 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hello spoonie dolls and dish darlings…. Hope all is well with you this evening (or morning if you happen to be in the part of the world where the sun is out and shining).

So about 2 months ago I made an order on Beautilish  and was sent a sample of Bioderma for both sensitive skin and combo skin. I decided I wanted to try it out to find out what all the noise was about.  So glad I did!!!

How darn cute are these sample packets!??

Normally I hold off on telling anyone about a new product I’ve used or in this case an old  product that is new to me. I also never review a product that I haven’t tried out for a few months at least …. hence the reason I only have  1 product reviewed. (2 if you count my review on the Ikea Alex Desk I got a few weeks ago).

I was sitting at my desk a few weeks back writting  out some ideas and lists for things I want to buy to do reviews on and remembered that my makeup had been on all day…

So tired, makeup lasted a good 12 hours …. lipstick is a victim of a bowl of mint chocolate chip…

so I started to get up to go wash off my face and the samples fell off my desk …. was that fate interceding?                                     (All signs point to yes… )

So I took to plunge and I gotta say, damn the French sure know their skin care! I am extremely in love with both formulas .

Did really good… had to rub a bit harder on the eye do to a glitter eyeline… review coming soon on that one too

I will be giving this review in comparison to the Garnier Micellar Water  (I have been using the Garnier one ever since it was released to the U.S. and have also worked with both formulas of this product as well.

Bioderma comes in 3 formulas (for dry, combo, and sensitive skin) and comes  in 3 sizes. (100, 250, & 500 ml) (3.4 , 8.5, & 16.9 oz) and sells for $6.90 to $16.90 through Beautilish . The Garnier version only comes in 2 formulas (all skin types and waterproof) and only comes in 2 sizes (100 & 400 ml) (3.4 and 13.5 oz)  and sells for $3.50 (for the smaller one) and $6.25 to  $8.99 and can be found at most drug stores, Walmart, Target, and Ulta.

The Bioderma brand has this light almost cucumber like scent to it where as the Garnier brand has ,at least to me, an almost polymer type smell to it…. I really do not enjoy the scent of the Garnier one.

Both brands tote claims that they are a no rinse dirt and makeup remover that gently removes product without stripping the skin of moisture.

With the Garnier cleanser I always had to rinse my face, didn’t matter which one I used I always had this sticky residue left over once the micellar water dried and  and always burns my eyes  with Bioderma I didn’t have any residue at all. It left my face feeling refreshed. It felt almost like a face tonic spray  I use to make with cucumber rose and mint. Very light, softly scented, and so calming and I tested it on my waterline – does not sting at all.

With the Bioderma I only needed 1 large cotton rounds as a posed to the Garnier one where I tend to use an average of 6 large cotton rounds. This is in part due to the fact that I use a full coverage foundation (normally) and it does take a second pass to break through all that coverage.

This is where to comparison ends …Lets talk about the 1 thing that is a CON for the Bioderma brand.

When I use the Garnier cleanser I always use witch hazel as a toner to remove the residual remover so I decided to use the witch hazel as a toner only.   When I did this , I did have some makeup still come off … now this could be because it was a small sample sized amount and so I may have needed the cotton pad to be soaked a bit more than I was able to the first time through. Either way I am ok with having to use the witch hazel since I use it as a toner before my moisture routine anyway.

Left is the cotton round that was used with the witch hazel, on the right is the Bioderma cotton pad

All in all Bioderma is a sold choice. It’s a bit more expensive but so worth every penny. It’s like a heavenly bottle of spa time…. and I can’t wait to finish off my bottle of Gernier so I can start buying Bioderma.

Well thanks for peeking in on this spoonie’s makeup bag, and remember spoonie darlings … reserve a spoon for a bit of lipgloss.

Face of the Day

Published November 15, 2016 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll. Hope your day was smooth, pain free (errr… as close to pain free as any spoonie can have) and that you had plenty of spoons to make it through the day.

I have been taking a new dose of my depression medication and it seems to be working for me .  I  have had the energy ( both physically and mentally) to wear a full beat face 4 out of 7 days the past few weeks. (excluding the days at the first of the month when I was still off m muscle relaxers)

So I thought it was damn time that I share a face of the day with you. Remember even when you are having a bad spoonie day, just the littlest of things like a bit of blush, a smear of lip gloss  and mascara could help keep you feeling less depressed , feeling human on the days were , as a spoonie we feel left out or just unaccomplished.

Remember it’s the small things that can make a big difference in how we feel on low days. Even just a spritz of our favorite scent can help.

No flash in Natural Light.

Why yes… that is a face demon… thanks for pointing that out. (😣) ….Wink wink nudge nudge…..
On the eyes:

Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics  ($54)

To set my primer ( I just use whatever concealer I am am using that day) I used PREGAME.

On my transition I chose NUDE  and also on the high plain of the transition area I chose a mix of NUDE & COMMANDO.

High crease I used INSTINCT Low crease I used TEMPTED.

Outer V area I used LETHAL ( I also used in on my lower lash line ).

Urban Decay Naked Smoky  ($54)

2/3 of my lid I used DIRTY SWEET (also used it on the lower middle and lower waterline) .

Inner Corner Highlight I used HIGH .

Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid ($28) in Peach .

NYX Gotcha Covered Concealer  ($5.99) in Medium Olive .

Physicians Formula 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum ($8.60)  in ULTRA BLACK.

It Cosmetics Hello Lashes 5-in-1 Mascara ($24) in the color blackest black for lower lashes and Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara ($23) in Carbon Black  for upper lashes .

On the Brows :

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Duo ($23) in Dark Brown and NYX Micro Brow Pencil ( $9.99) in Espresso .

On the Face:

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation ($39) in Nude and also Natural Beige .

Milani The Multitasker Face Powder ($6.99) in #05 TAN .

Contour I used The Balm Cosmetics Bahama Mama ($20) .

I used IT Cosmetics Vitality Face Disk  (now called Your Most Beautiful You Anti Aging Face Palette  ($38) For my Highlight (Live) Blush (Love) and Bronzer (Laugh) .

On The Lips:

NYX Suede Matte Lip Pencil ($4.00) in the color ALABAMA to contour and line my lips and Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in the color MASOCHIST ($18) .

WOW! When I put all this on I didn’t realize just how much stuff I had on my face (wink wink).

Well … Thanks for taking the time to peek in on this spoonie’s makeup

bag … Until next time I hope the daylight receives you with less pain than the night before, more spoons than ever , and remember to save a spoon for a bit of lip gloss 💋💜💋

Barbie Heads and Hair Monsoons

Published November 15, 2016 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey. Hope the day finds you with plenty of spoons.

So remember when I said I made a lot of changes? Some were health related and some where hair related, gulp …. OK so here’s what I did to my head….

In February  I decided I was a red head

I really enjoyed this color but …

Anyone who lives in Florida can tell ya that the water here is hell on hair color … and it doesn’t help that I hit the pool pretty hard this year. But I also liked the color that my hair lightened to

So much so that i didn’t color my hair again for a long while (from February until October… that’s  a record for me) which gave my hair this amazing chunky  ombre effect …

Didn’t mind it so much, but I had to push it…

So October comes in and I went dark…

This was meant to be a dark denim blue but it looked black unless under direct light

So I decided to color correct and … gulp …. attempt to bleach my own head ….

Color corrected, though could go lighter … enter the weeks of hell …

It was still too brassy so I tempted fate and bleached it again the next day … 😣

Since I was doing a dark denim ombre I was good with this…. or so I thought…

I hadn’t noticed until my hair dried that I was bald in some areas… and the hair rained down like it was monsoon season … on one particularly bad hair breaking day I brushed my hair only to find a barbie head stuck in my brush …. enter the shock you are about to  have . … are you ready to see my new look? … gulp … here we go…

Ohhhh ya baby, yes I did … I buzzed it all off.

I gotta say it’s kind of freeing … saves me time on getting ready, showering, and I don’t have to worry about bad hair days for a while…. or accidentally overdosing on dry shampoo between blow outs.

also am loving the fact that I can make anything I wear and any makeup look appear a little more edgy

And wearing hats in Florida doesn’t mean frizzy hair later 🤗

Hope you enjoyed me poking fun at my hair mistake …. Thanks for taking time to peek in on this spoonies makeup bag, remember save a spoon for a bit of lip gloss 💋💜💋

Who the Hell Woke Up One Morning and Said , hmmm

Published November 15, 2016 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey dolls, how ya been? I’m coming at’cha with a beauty related post …. can you believe it? I know finally the makeup bag gets used!!

So I’m starting by saying I have made A LOT of changes …. guuurrrllll I mean A LOT!

First change, my makeup sanctuary has received a much needed, and much appreciated (thanks babe for the early Christmas present) upgrade.

This is how I was set up before I received my early gift from my husband

I loved the way I was set up; however I didn’t have enough comfort  whist I crayolaed my face and I banged the hell out of my knees on a daily. With my station setup this way I also I had to constantly get out of my broke down computer chair to get something from one of the ends of the dresser. This dresser was also so old that the drawers would unremittingly fall on my toes anytime I tried to retrieve something out of them.

So hubby took pity on my poor abused toes and knees and bought me an Alex desk from Ikea.

We originally wanted the Alex desk that has the drawers attached, however I

didn’t know that it was officially called LINNMON/Alex Table so when we looked it up to get the location we couldn’t find it …. and so this pretty little desk was the one we purchased. I’m so in love with this damn desk you have NOOOOOOO idea!!!

I didn’t have as much space to work with so I used this really cute lazy susan that I picked up for $3.00 at a yard sale over the weekend and I put all my lippies , foundations, setting sprays, primers, and setting powders on it and that freed up so much space now.

I just love this marble lazy susan … I can;t believe they only wanted $3.00 for it!!!

there are some pros and cons to this desk…. this will not be me bitching or whining about my  desk …. I still very much love my desk, I just want to give you an honest review of this desk just in case you are looking to pick one up.

Wait, what are you eye balling? … why yes, yes those are milk crates, I call it my nail station …. awww come on …. that was funny waaaiiittt …. where you going, ok , ok come back here …. I wont make any more bad jokes I promise, well … I hope I promise.

So back to our convo …

Let’s start with cons…… There is less internal storage than that of  the desk with the Alex 5 drawer attached since there is only 2 drawers, which brings me to con #2 ….

the drawers are wide however they aren’t deep enough to store my palettes upright. The only ones that are sized right to store upright are the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. The rest of the palettes that I own I have to lay flat, which takes up a ton of prime real estate.

Still building my collection after my declutter at the start of the summer

how I have to store my palettes  ( am thinking of getting one of those   ByAlegory Eyeshadow Palette Organizer  things off Amazon )

My last con …. The drawer stoppers … UGH, ok so I do have to bitch about this con.

Who the hell woke up one morning and said , hmmm , lets create an amazing desk and and than make it impossible to open the drawers in said desk…. oh and just for shits and giggles , lets also make it impossible to close again , without smashing one’s fingers in the damn thing.  Again I say …. UGH!!!!

this is as far as the damn thing opens and as far as it closes …. so my thumb gets smashed sometimes (waaaaaaa!!!)

Now for the pros….

There is plenty of surface space to have some acrylic makeup storage on the desk and still have room for your  laptop .

Pro #2 : since there aren’t any additional storage units under the desk there is so much space for your legs, or to share the desk with someone else wanting to get all dolled up , or to maybe even teach someone else how to do their makeup (always a fun experience for me) .

Pro#3: there is a hidden channel towards the back end of the desk that always you to store your wires so that you can have your laptop, cell phone, flat iron, or whatever you wish plugged in and not have a heap of messy wires everywhere.

The price tag is a bit more spendy but it’s a good quality desk that not only is sturdy but so pretty to look at.

Well. Thank’s again for peeking in on this spoonie’s makeup bag ( yes I know this wasn’t a full “makeup” related blog post, but it gets better … just you wait and see) and until next time save a spoon for a bit of lip gloss .

I’ve Had Up’s and Down’s ; But …

Published November 14, 2016 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Why hello there doll!!! Sorry I’ve been away so long. It’s been one hell after another since we last talked.

I’ve been to see my rheumaatologist who took me off my muscle relaxers because he says he feels as though they are pointless as they do not help with fibromyalgia.

I spent almost 3 weeks in such pain it literally took my breath from me at times. I couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, and most importantly I was unable to even interact with my family. I spent most of my time crying, lying on the floor, or chain smoking because of the pain.

Around about the last part of the 2nd week I had enough of doing it the doctors way and , after talking with my husband about it, decided to start taking my muscle relaxers again.

Needless to say, I am feeling so much better now. ( about 2 days after starting my muscle relaxers again.)

The thing I have learned through this walk as a spoonie is this … doctor’s do not always know what is the best thing for you. Not every fibro patient will respond to the same course of treatment and when something is working for you it’s important to stand your ground and say I’m sticking with it.

I so wish I would have stood my ground this past month.

I have been taken off my anxiety meds and that has kept me house bound more than I would like and once again I have put myself back on my anxiety meds and will have a long talk with my shrink about this.

I’ve had ups and downs with my pain levels , energy, and mental health ; but I am still here … I am still fighting … and I am still hoping to be a beacon for other spoonies out there and of course a place for understand for those not in the spoonie circle.

I know it’s hard to understand what we go through, and I hope to continue giving you insight to those of us with autoimmune illnesses.

Well, that’s it for now. I’ll be bringing you those  long promised makeup posts soon, and some makeup reviews.

Thank you for taking the time to take a peek into this spoonie’s makeup bag and as always – remember spoonie darlings , save a spoon for a bit of lipgloss.  xox

Wait, Did Sephora Just Steal My Heart?

Published September 3, 2016 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hello darlings and dears. Hope all is well for you today. It’s storming here so you know that means I’m hurting BIG TIME.

As a spoonie I try to find ways to make life easier for me. Naturally I have to prioritize what types of things I want to add to my beauty regimen, which normally means I almost never have my nails done, my toes I just about always have done but this is because I only paint them once a month  (thank you Wet n Wild for producing such an amazing product what always helps me to accomplish this).

Well … I received a message that I would be included in the #SystemAddict VoxBox for this month.  For those of you not familiar with Vox Box…. It is a sample box that Influenster sends out to you based on a simple survey to determine which box for the month you qualify for. This box is called a VOX BOX. The best things about the vox box are that the products are full-sized and that the products are free, the only thing you need do is use your social media to review the products… that’s it, nothing more… how many times are you on your social media and you don’t know really what you want to say or do… well vox box helps with that.

This month I qualified for a makeup related box called Formula X #SystemAddict box.

FINALLY a vox box right up my alley!!!!

The box comes with 5 full-sized items: 1. Nail bed dehydrater called: Cleanse 2. Base coat called: Prime 3. Polish called: Formula X 4. Top coat called: Shine 5. Polish remover jar called: Delete All

I have never been one that would spend more than $4 on a nail polish, I mean come on it lasts maybe (if I’m lucky) 3 days on my nails so why would I spend more than that? I have tried many polishes and the only one I seem to gravitate toward is Wet n Wild’s Mega Last polish line (that sucker lasts forever and comes in so many colors and it’s only $1.99 !!) That is until I tried these new babies.

From left to right we have Cleanse, Prime, Formula X (in the color TGIF), and Shine

Wait, wait , wait … hold it a second … Did Sephora just steal my heart away from Wet n Wild? WET n WILD??? My die-hard, have been using since junior high school brand? Well darlings and dears … it would seem so.

Let’s break this down for you.

I am a spoonie, this means I have to pick and choose what I do with my time wisely. This often means when it comes to my beauty regimen I have to decide if I should spend the extra time and energy on plucking my brows or changing my polish, making sure said brows are even whist I do my makeup or waiting for my polish to dry, or the ever popular shaving my legs or painting my toes. The reason I USE TO be obsessed with the MegaLast line was that I would only have to spend the extra spoon on painting my toes once a month because this puppy would stay on forever if you needed it to, however with the Formula X polish line I am not sure if this is also true, I think it could be and am in the process of testing that theory out.  Seriously though, with as many colors as Sephora carries for this line there is NO WAY I am going to have enough restraint to keep myself from painting my piggies only once a month.

Blank canvas ready and excited for this color!!

I tested the Delete All on the polish that was on my hands the day I received my package in the mail. I have used other jar polish removers in the past and hated them without prejudice due to their smells, the awkward shapes, or simply that after 2 or 3 uses the sponges were just no good anymore. With Delete All I didn’t have any of those issues. Upon opening the jar I did not notice a scent ( GOOD ON YOU Formula X for the way you seal your jars!! There is no way this jar is leaking in transit) in fact I had to stick a cotton bud into the jar to be able to test the scent. Not too smelly, I mean with any remover you are going to have a smell, but this one want’s too bad and it removed all my polish at one time! It has a hole in the sponge for 5 fingers and did in fact take off all my Wet n Wild polish. There wasn’t too much residue on my nails after and no sticky feeling to my hands like I get when I used other jar removers.

Next I tested out the Cleanse (step 1) and compared it to when I use alcohol to dehydrate my nail bed before I put polish on and honestly I didn’t see that much of a difference. Both methods remove oils and unwanted barriers between the nail and polish, however Cleanse does not have a harsh scent.

Step 2 was to prime (base coat) my nails and here is where the scent got a bit stronger. I could not believe how fast this base coat dried! I was in the middle of doing wash when I was testing these products. While doing the base coat the dryer beeped and I had just painted my middle finger but when I tested the 3 fingers I did get to paint they were already dry! I wasn’t sitting in a room with a fan on either. ( hmmm pretty cool)

When I got to step 3 I though oh no, see I knew this wasn’t going to go well for me. I wasn’t sure I liked the color, I hated how strong the scent was, I just knew that with as thick as the polish was there was no way this was going to dry by the time I was ready for bed, and the first coat was so streaky that I didn’t see how a second coat would be able to improve the mess that was my nails at that moment. My first hand was dry even before my second hand was finished and the second coat of ( goodness why so thick) polish did in fact improve the look of the polished digits and the color was pretty ( ok Formula X I see you)

On the 4th and final step of this mani I was impressed ( ok …. ok stop looking at me like that, I was more than impressed I was Gobsmacked , head over heels in love, and already writing a shopping list for the colors I was going to pick up in this line).

I figured the top coat (Shine) would probably take forever to dry and I would be exhausted and not be able to shower, but by the time I painted my pinky on my right hand all of my fingers were cleared for take off.

From start to finish the whole system took maybe 10 minutes total and was simple to apply  with the brushes being designed to fit the nail bed perfectly!  That’s a blessing to this spoonie since my normal ( I mean old) routine takes a minimum of 25 minutes,  45 if I want to be sure I wont have bed sheet marks the next day.

My final thoughts on these products are that I am seriously impressed and am now more obsessed with Formula X and the EXCEL system than I ever was with what’s its name (yes, we are braking up, my heart now belongs to another).  I also really like the manicured look it leaves me with.

full hand

Well spoonie darlings and dish dears, I hope that the day finds you in good spirits, with plenty of spoons for the darlings and patience for the dears. Thank you ever so much for making it to the end of this blog post (yes it’s a big one but that is proof that I truly love this product!!). Until next time, thanks for peaking in on this spoonie’s makeup bag and remember to save a spoon for a little lip gloss ( errrr Nail Polish)

*I have received these products complimentary to test and review. *** HOWEVER, the opinions I have stated are completely my own and are non biased.

HashTag Sad Panda

Published September 1, 2016 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Why hello there gorgeous! I hope your day is going amazingly.

I thought it was about time to post another face of the day (#FOTD).

Today’s I had a therapist appointment and as always managed to mess up what time I was meant to be there.

Whist in the middle of doing my right eyebrow my husband leans in close to say that I was going to be late if I didn’t get going. ( here I sat thinking I still had another hour to rock out with Pandora and get my beat face on … #sad panda ).

Needless to say I flew through the rest of my face – by skipping liner and eye shadow …. There was no way I was leaving the house on a day I really want to play in my makeup without at least brows, lips, and bling .

I had a small break through in therapy today (baby steps right?), later on that but for now … this what I came up with when I got back home and was able to edit my look. Also as a side note – I will still be posting my reviews on each of the products that are new to me throughout the week.

Please note that I have purchased all products listed. Non of the following products we sent to me for review, gifted to me , or promotional gifts.

Hope you enjoy and please feel free to leave me a comment with anything you would like to have me review for you, any question you have about fibromyalgia, or just to simply give me some constructive criticism.

today's FOTD with 714 from JS #2

I wasn’t sure if I would look good in this color when I first opened the tube of Jeffree Star’s Velour Liquid Lipstick in 714 (one of the colors in his Summer 2016 release). This was a gift to me from my dear friend Desiree the last trip she made down here to Florida. I have got to say I am so over the moon with this color.  True, this color does go on patchy ( Jeffree Star himself has even said this) but to avoid this all you need do is apply a lip liner in a shade 1 color deeper all over your lip before applying the lipstick, than dab a bit of extra lipstick on you finger and swipe it over the patchy areas.  (a bit of work but so worth it for the heavenliness that is this color.) I chose to wear it for half the day matte however since I was testing a few other cosmetics out for wear and longevity I chose to add a lip gloss to give my lip a nice youthful shine.
