A Few Days Off

Published August 3, 2020 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey. How’s your day/night going? Great I hope. I’m having a super bad Fibromyalgia day … low energy and high pain.

I have to take a few days off from playing in my makeup.

Today I’m focusing on washing my makeup brushes that have piled up.

This is about 2 months of makeup brushes and even though I still have a ton of clean and ready to be used brushes I don’t like to let my dirty brush pile get too far out of control.

I use a dish tub that I purchased at the dollar store filled 1/3 of the way with hot tap water and 48 ounces of boiling hot water from the stove.

I use a bar of Dove Pink Beauty Bar to cleanse my brushes… I also use this soap to clean my beauty sponges and Face Halos daily. It’s super gentle and smells amazing… leaving my brushes and sponges smelling nice even after a few uses of them.

To scrub my brushes clean I use this mesh strainer that I purchased at the dollar store. It makes getting my brushes clean so much easier and faster. I just get the brushes wet and rub them in the soap and then run the brushes all over the inner surface of the mesh strainer and then dip my brushes into the dish tub to rinse them clean.

Once they are clean I rub them over a clean towel and place them on another clean towel to dry over night.

Normally I don’t let my brushes pile up this long, typically I wash my brushes every few weeks or so …. so normally this process takes me about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. Because I have 2 months worth of brushes, today it took me a little over 2 1/2 hours to cleanse all the brushes.

When I cleanse my brushes I start with the face brushes, starting with the densest ones to the lightest ones. I then move to my eye brushes, starting with my fluffy crease brushes, moving to my flat shader brushes, then my brow and liner brushes. I find that if I work in this fashion always that I don’t have to switch out my wash basin water but maybe 4 times and all my brushes come out squeaky clean. I also find that since I use the strainer to scrub the brushes that not only do I take less time to clean the brushes it also takes less time to get my brushes to dry. Before I washed my brushes this way it would take about a day and 1/2 to 2 days for my bushes to dry all the way and with now it only takes about 6 or so hours for my brushes to be thoroughly dry.

I also mix a travel spray bottle with homemade brush cleaner … I use 1/4 of the bottle filled with Witch Hazel (the only thing I use witch hazel for), 1/3 of the rest of the bottle with 91% Isopropyl alcohol, and the rest of the bottle with fresh water. I also add a bout 2 to 4 drops of tea tree oil and 3 drops of baby body wash.

I use this brush cleaner to sterilize my brush handles before I put them away and I also use this brush cleaner to sterilize my brushes daily between uses.

I do own one of those dry brush cleaner sponges that I purchased at Sephora but I only use it when I’m doing a look that requires more brushes than I set out for the day …. I typically have 1 flat shader, 3 fluffy crease, 2 pencil, and 1 flat definer brushes… along with a fluffy face brush, a highlighter, bronzer, and all purpose utility face brush. So when I’m in need of using the same brush but for a different color I just simply run it along the dry brush sponge to knock out the previous color.

I chose to not do my makeup today to conserve my energy to clean my brushes but also that I can rest. Tomorrow I will be getting another round of Radiofrequency Ablation … I did a whole post on what RFA is you can read that here. I get this done every 6 months (in 2 sessions, the 1st one on the left hip and then the 2nd one on the right hip) and it truly has helped when it comes to the amount of pain I am in but because I’ll be getting it done on Tuesday I will be on bed rest the rest of that day and will be taking it easy on Wednesday to regroup.

Well that’s it for now dolls. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day/night and that you are in good spirits and health.

Remember …. save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

No Face of the Day Today: Fibromyalgia Talk

Published July 23, 2020 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey! How’s your day/night going? Great I hope. Today I am not doing so well. I am in a world of pain, did not sleep well at all last night because I was up with pain most of the night, and I have absolutely zero energy.

Sometimes my walk with fibromyalgia leaves me feeling defeated. This is how I feel today. Very much like I’ll never be normal again.

All of my muscles are killing me …. it feels like I had a high impact leg and arm day at the gym on the same day and then got hit by a bus coming out of the gym.

My joints in my hands and the knees are so sore and making it very unable to do simple things such as hold my coffee cup and brush my teeth, not to mention walking hurt like a 1,000 knives being stabbed into them.

The fatigue I am feeling isn’t like a normal, didn’t get enough rest, fatigue. It’s like having a 103 fever, sick with mono, and haven’t slept in 3 days fatigue.

It’s days like this that leave me feeling angry at the world and angry at the traumas of my past that cause my brain to snap and create this damn illness.

I know I’ll never be rid of this illness (not unless they are able to come up with #1 a way to detect fibromyalgia, #2 a cure for fibromyalgia, and #3 a real defined reason that fibromyalgia suffers have contracted it) but it would be nice to just have 1 day …. just ONE that would be pain free (not low pain like most of my days are … I’m never without pain …. everyday (24 hours….1140 minutes …. 86,400 seconds of pain EVERYDAY)…. It’s just some days the pain intensity is much lower and I’m able to do things.

On day’s like today the pain is so intense that I really should check into hospital and get a pain infusion and Myers Cocktail (it’s a vitamin therapy treatment which enhances immune system, reduces fatigue, helps with seasonal allergies, reduces symptoms of fibromyalgia and asthma and contains magnesium chloride, calcium gluconate, thiamine, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, calcium pantothenate, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, and dilute hydro- chloric acid.) but I don’t because let’s face it the treatments are very fleeting and then I’m left with the side effects of cotton mouth and a nasty little head ache… not to mention an astronomical hospital bill.

So all I can do is keep bundled up with a warm cozy blanket, try not to move too much, and remind myself to breath until the pain levels come down some. For the fatigue all I can do is fight the need for sleep (since sleeping in the day only leads to more pain and the less likelihood of being able to fall asleep tonight) and limit my activities to the bare necessities: a simple shower… no washing of or fixing up my hair… no makeup for me… brush my teeth… fix my mother and myself something for breakfast…. probably skipping lunch to store up what little energy I can for to fix dinner…. and since I’m in pain it will be a laying down day for me.

It’s very hard to deal with on days like today but the part that crushes me the most is the isolation I feel on days like today, not that I’m very social these days because of Covid -19 (since I have an auto-immune illness I have to stay away from the world to keep myself healthy), but on days like today I realize just how much I have to do that I can’t do because I’m in a horrible flare.

Photo by Engin Akyurt on Pexels.com

I always try to remind my fellow spoonies to save a bit of energy for themselves … to be able to do something for themselves everyday to just give them a bit of spirit boost … it’s so important not to loose ourselves in the service of our loved ones because of these auto-immune diseases…. but we also have to know when to surrender to the illness so as to not cause our illnesses to progress further.

It’s just that on days like today it feels like I’ve thrown in the towel, like I’ve rolled over and given up, like I’ve laid down and surrendered for good.

I pride myself on always being able to do for myself… but on days like today there is NO way I can…. and unfortunately, ever since hubby’s hours changed, there is no one that I can rely on. I feel defeated today.

Well dolls. I’m sorry to write such a Debbie Downer post… I’m just so frustrated and so over whelmed that there is just no way for me to put a happy spin on today.

I’m grateful for my speech to text software because at least I’m able to still blog for the day … but I have this amazing makeup look I really wanted to do today and new products that arrived today that I really want to dive into … and I have to table table it until this flare ends.

Well, that’s all for now dolls … hopefully I’ll be better by tomorrow, in the meantime I hope and pray that you have a great rest of your day/night and that you are in good spirits and health.

Remember dolls … it’s OK to not have any spoons for the day … but on the days where you have some spoons …. remember to save one for a bit of lipstick.

Eye Brows and Lashes 2 Month Check In

Published May 17, 2020 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey! How’s your day/night going? Great I hope. I can’t believe it’s been 2 months since I started my brow and lash growth journey … so here is my 2 month check in….

20200413_224802 (1)

My Left Brow after 1 month on Jamaican Black Castor Oil – April 2020

My left brow after 2 months on Jamaican Black Castor Oil – May 2020 : There is hair growth and the tail is getting just a bit thicker and the front of my brow is finally starting to lay flat. There isn’t as much difference as I had hoped but I have been sleeping on my sides instead of my back like I was in April … I may have to start sleeping on my back again to see if I can get the growth to kick start again.

My right Brow after 1 month on Jamaican Black Castor Oil – April 2020

My right brow after 2 months on Jamaican Black Castor Oil – May 2020. There is hair growth in the  tail, more than last month. The front of the brow is laying flatter and the arch is starting to grow more hair … better results than last month.

My left lashes after 1 month on Jamaican Black Castor Oil – April 2020

My right lashes after 2 months on Jamaican Black Castor Oil – May 2020. The lashes have now started to curl and have gotten thicker and fluffy. My lower lashes are longer however they seem to be thinning. I’m not sure if this is due to that fact that I have been sleeping on my sides in stead of my back … I may have to go back to sleeping on my back again.

Real Neat Blog Award

Published April 22, 2020 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey!!! How’s your day going? Great I hope.

I’m honored to announce that I was nominated by RetroDee for The Real Neat Blog Award!

Thanks RetroDee for the nomination doll! I feel very honored.

The ‘rules’ of the Real Neat Blog Award are:

1. Put the award logo on your blog.

2. Answer 7 questions asked by the person who nominated you.

3. Thank the people who nominated you, linking to their blogs.

4. Nominate any number of bloggers you like, linking to their blogs; and asking them seven questions.

5. Let them know you nominated them (by commenting on their blog etc.)

Now for the 7 questions I was asked to answer:

1. Who or what inspires you to write your blog?

My husband. I’ve always loved playing in makeup and really wanted to do a Youtube channel but I dont have enough courage to start a channel so he created this blog for me as a surprise one day when I was having a seriously bad Fibro day.

2. Would you consider doing a You Tube channel, or do you already have one?

I have an account with Youtube and have always wanted to produce videos but I feel self conscious of my weight and the gap in my front teeth. I also feel as if at 46 I have missed the window to really make a go at it. If I could go back in time and push myself to jump right on in I totally would.

3. What era would you live in if you could pick any time period (or do you like this one?)

I would love to live as an older person in the 70’s I was a baby for the 70’s so I missed so much.

4. What’s your favorite TV program?

All 3 Chicago shows: Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D.

I also am a huge Shadowhunters fan

5. Do you believe in ghosts?

Yes I 100% believe in ghosts … I’ll have to do a post on my ghost encounter one day.

6. Do you enjoy cooking or baking better? Or neither?

I enjoy them both but I love baking just a little bit more than cooking.

7. Who is your favorite band of all time?

Christain Music: Casting Crowns

Secular Music: Fallout Boy

Finally, I nominate the following blogs: (please remember that there is no pressure to participate, if you don’t want to, or don’t have the time, no worries!)

My Nominees:

Courtney Carruthers

Be Beautifuls

My Questions For the Nominees are:

1. What book did you read as a teen that you still love now as an adult?

2. What is your favorite and least favorite makeup product?

3. What is the one accomplishment you are the proudest of?

4. What is your favorite skin care item and why?

5. What makeup look would you like to try and master?

6. What is your favorite movie and why?

7. What is your favorite book and why?

Well that’s all for now dolls. Hope you have a great test of your day/night. Remember dolls …. Save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

Eye Brows and Lashes 1 Month Check-in

Published April 14, 2020 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey!!! How’s your day/night? Great I hope. Can you believe it’s been 1 full month since I started this brow growth journey? Just as a recap … I have been using IQ Natural Jamaican Black Castor Oil ($12.99 on Amazon) every night in my brows and lashes to help promote hair growth.

When I first started this journey I was skeptical that I would see any results… but fast forward to 1 month later and color me impressed! So let’s take a look at the differences.

BEFORE PICTURE: My right eye lashes … stubby and areas are missing lashes … and the lashes clump together

20200413_224719 (1)

1 MONTH LATER PICTURE: My right lashes considerably longer and the lashes no longer clump together… I’ve also noticed that I have hair growing at the beginning of the lash line, I never had hair there.

20200414_141837 (1)

BEFORE PICTURE: My left lashes…. stubby and clumped together… and am missing some lashes at the end of the lash line…

1 MONTH LATER PICTURE: My left lashes … longer and fluffier and are starting not to be clumped together … this eye the lashes are still a bit clumped together but they are starting to grow separated from one another.

BEFORE PICTURE: My right brow, the full brow line is sparse and I have no hair at the arch and almost no hair in the tail. The front of my brows the hair doesn’t fluff up and even with brow gel I cant get them to stay in place.

I MONTH LATER PICTURE: My right brow, The whole brow line is much fuller and the brow hairs are now starting to lay in the right direction, there is a ton more hair in the tail and hair has started to grow in my arch.

BEFORE PICTURE: My left brow, the full brow line is sparse, though not as sparse as the right brow and I have no hair at the arch and only 2 hairs in the tail. The front of my brows the hair doesn’t fluff up and even with brow gel I cant get them to stay in place.

20200413_224802 (1)

1 MONTH LATER PICTURE: My left brow, the whole brow line is fuller… the hairs are starting to lay fluffier, there is a ton of hair in the tail now and the arch is starting to fill in nicely.

After only 1 month I can see a bit difference! I am super impressed. I will continue to use the Castor Oil every night for the next 5 months … I feel that 6 months total of every night use should be sufficient to get my brows and lashes to the fullness that I am after…after the 6 months are up I will switch to 3 times a week.

Well that’s all for now dolls… Hope you have a great rest of your day/night. Remember dolls … Save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

Getting to Know Me Part 7

Published March 31, 2020 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey!!! Hope you are having a great day/night and that you are in good health.

I”m back with another lightning round of questions from bekkibee22.

It’s been so fun to do her question tags and even more fun to get to know her on an individual level.

Well …. let’s jump into it ….

How would you describe your style? At home I would say hipster chic and in public I would say layed back classic.

2. What’s your best trait? Personality wise: my compassion. Physically wise: Hubby would say it’s my lips but I think it’s my eyes.

3. What’s your worst trait? Personality wise: I internalize my hurt when someone upsets me. Physically wise: The gap in my front teeth.

4. What’s your coffee order? Most of the times Decafe Black… but I do sometimes add a touch of flavored cream … typically peppermint mocha or caramel vanilla.

5. What Makes you happy? Most things make me happy. I’ve learned to appreciate the life I have now that my Clinical Depression is being treated. But the thing that makes me the most happy is the way my husband curls himself around me when he is sleeping.

6. What’s your biggest Pet Peeve? People who mispronounce words … like the word regardless…. it’s pronounced RE GAURD LESS not EAR RE GAURD LESS…. definitely my biggest pet peeve!!

7. What’s your most used emoji? The purple heart emoji.

8. What’s your favourite colour? Purple … it’s the autoimmune illness awareness color.

9. What’s your favourite memory? Wow that’s a tough one, there are so many….. I will pick 2… #1 the first time hubby and I went to Disney world together and #2 The day I was baptized.

10. What’s your favourite holiday? I have 2… Halloween and Christmas.

Well that’s all for now dolls. Thanks for taking the time to get to know me. I hope you are in good spirits. Remember to save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

Getting to Know Me Part 6

Published March 30, 2020 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey!! Hope you’re having such a great day…. Im coming at tou with another 20 questions from the amazing blogger bekkibee22 … let’s get into them….

If you were to die this evening with no opportunity to communicate with anyone, what would you most regret not having told someone? Why haven’t you told them yet? Nothing. I make sure I always say what needs to be said because tomorrow isn’t always promised.

What do you spend too much time doing? What don’t you spend enough time doing? Too Much Time: My makeup… I can play with makeup all day if you let me. Not Enough Time: Cooking from scratch…. I use to make everything from scratch even pasta.

What makes you feel more alive? Several things. A nice homemade Italian meal, the quite when I first wake up in the morning, the look my hubby gives me when he’s proud that I didn’t give up, a good praise and worship song, basically anything that makes me feel happy… I take nothing for granted.

What is something you know you do differently than most people? The way I do my makeup. When I do my eye makeup and then do my brows, I cut the brow line with a cream pencil that takes some of my eye makeup away and then I have to go back in and do part of my eye makeup again…. I find it makes my eyeshadow perfected that way.

What advice would you offer to yourself five years ago? One year ago? 5 Years Ago: Dont beat yourself up because you have limitations with your illness. 1 Year Ago: Spend more time with your loved ones … several will pass away and you will wish you had more time with them.

What small gesture from a stranger made a big impact on you? I was feeling down about myself so I went shopping for makeup and all the guys behind the makeup counter keep telling me they were living for my eye look. It made me feel better about myself that day.

What are you looking forward to in the coming months? Being able to see my baby sister if this virus pandemic ends.

Did you ever feel lost in your life path? How did you find your way again? Yes… I felt like I had no purpose in life and I read the bible verse: Ephesians 2:8-9

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” And I realized that God had a purpose for me … it just wasnt my time to know that purpose just then… and so I waited patiently for HIM to open my way.

What do you want your epitaph to be? Here rests a gentle soul.

What do you regret not doing? Why haven’t you done it? I regret not spending more time with my Grandmom before she passed. Because I live in a different than she did and couldn’t go to visit as much as I could have.

What would constitute a perfect day for you? Cuddling up with my hubby watching horror movies and eating junk food.

What’s something you love about yourself? My ability to be compassionate.

When do you feel truly alive? When my hubby holds me…. when I am having a good fibro day ….. when I’m able to get all the house work done without resting …. honestly just basically all the time…. Im a lover of life and all it’s hidden blessings.

When people come to you for help, what do they usually want help with? Everything, Im a big people person and find true blessings in being able to help a person in need.

What do you consider as your biggest achievement in the last 5 years? Being able to bring my mother to Florida to live with me.

What is the most challenging part of your job? How do you handle it? I consider being a house wife a fulltime job … because I am disabled and my illness does take alot out of me I would say …. running low on energy…. I just try and do as much as I can and then leave the rest for when I’m less fatigued.

What was a major turning point in your life? Moving to Florida. It was here where I was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and finally received treatment.

What’s one thing that could happen today that would make it great? I could get a company contacting me wanting to add me to their PR list to review makeup for them …. I’ve always wanted to be able to reach that level of success with my blog.

If you knew that in one year you would die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are now living? Why? No… not even a little bit. I appreciate the life God has given me.

What would you like to ask yourself? Why can’t you be more assertive instead of letting people get away with stupid things? I’m too much of a people pleaser that I do tend to get step all over.

Well that’s all for now dolls. Have a great night/day and remember ….. Save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

2 Week Update on Black Castor Oil Brows

Published March 30, 2020 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey!!! Stopping in with my week 2 update on the road to fuller brows and lashes. As I have already told you, I have been using Jamaican Black Castor Oil to promote hair growth in my brows and lashes…. to refresh your memory this is what my brows and lashes looked like 2 weeks ago….

my left side lashes … yes I had some bald spots .

My left side brow … notice there is no hair on the tail or in the arch all that is there is the left over micro brow ink.

My right side lashes … they were fuller but still stubby

my right side brow … no hair in the arch and very little hair in the tail

Now let’s see how they are doing now ……

My right brow … the hair in the tale is longer and getting thicker and there is new hair growth in the arch…. also the hair at the front of my brow is thicker and more hair is growing. I have since plucked the hairs that shouldn’t be there.

my right side lashes are longer and are all growing in the same direction now. I am also growing hairs at the back of the lash line when I didn’t have lashes there before.

My left brow … again more and thicker hair at the front …. the arch is getting thicker with hair and the tail has longer and more hair. I have since plucked the hairs that shouldn’t be there ….

My left lashes …. longer and growing in the same direction and fuller than they were 2 weeks ago.

Well there you have it dolls … progress …. slowly …. but it’s still progress…. I can’t wait to see what my brows look like in another 2 weeks.

Well that’s all for now dolls…. have a great day/night…. and remember …. Save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

Getting to Know Me Part 5… 20 Questions

Published March 29, 2020 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey!!! Hope you are having a great day/night …. I’m coming at you with another lightning round of questions tag from bekkibee22…. she is coming up with some really great questions… so here goes nothing …..

What are you most likely very wrong about? my stand on corporal punishment.

What chapters would you separate your autobiography into? Before salvation, After Salvation, and A Fairytale love affair.

What are some things you’ve had to unlearn? I had to unlearn being such a perfectionist…. with beung sick I can’t work life the way I once did because I often wear myself out…. so I’ve had to relearn how to be a house wife.

What could you give a 40 minute presentation on with absolutely no preparation? several things …. I could give a 40 minute presentation o what it’s like living with Fibromyalgia, I could give one on makeup application, I could give one on cooking from scratch….

What question would you most like to know the answer to? Nothing. I’m not the type of person that is in search of answers… If I have a question I normally sit down and research it for myself.

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time? Spend more time with my family, catch up on reading, fet some more makeup play in, and just take time to worship my Lord and Savior.

Why did you decide to do what you are doing now in your life? I decided to start this blog because I felt isolated and alone and like no one understood what it was like to have Fibromyalgia…. and because I wanted to try and be a beacon of hope for others feeling lost, isolated, alone, and hopeless.

What’s the best and worst pieces of advice you’ve ever received? Best Advice- Stop apologizing for thing beyond my control. Worst Advise- Giving myself fringe because someone said I would cute with bangs.

What’s the most impactful ‘no’ you’ve said recently? I’ve said NO to all MLM companies.

What has been the most stressful experience in your life? Living my whole life hiding the fact that I was raped for fear my family would be angry with me.

Is there something that you’ve dreamt of doing for a long time? Why haven’t you done it? I’ve always dreamt of starting a YouTube channel…. I never did it because #1 I’m 46 and feel like I’ve missed the opportunity to really connect with my target audience. And #2 I’m overweight and have thin skin when it comes to ridicule and am too afraid that people will be mean.

What would you like to change about your family? The fact that we live so far away from each other.

What was a place or event that transformed your ideas, thinking, perspective, or made you come alive in a new way? What changed? Going to my first Christian concert. There was so much love and worship that it forever changed my relationship with God. I now feel the spirit move when I listen to praise music.

What one thing would you do if it would be impossible to fail? Start a YouTube channel.

What is something you love now, that you never could have imagined you would like in the past? Connecting with new people. I’m mostly an introvert but ever since starting my blog I’ve been reaching out to people more and connecting with like-minded people.

If you could invite anyone, living or dead to dinner, who would it be and why? Nelson Mandela… because his teachings are fascinating to me.

If a crystal ball could tell you the truth about yourself, your life, the future or anything else, what would you want to know? Nothing. I never dwell on what the future holds I prefer to live it as I go.

What are you addicted to? Makeup, Chocolate, and Italian food… oh and cuddling with my hubby.

What’s the milestone you’re working towards right now in your personal and professional life? Personal: Wanting to buy a house within the next 2 years. Professional: Wanting to have an incredible blog with heaps of hits.

What was the most bizarre encounter you’ve had in your life? When I was in my 20’s and living in my first apartment… I moved into an apartment where a 22 year old male passed away from heary failure. His mom solf my his fridge and I always felt like someone was there with me. One night I fell asleep with a 3 wick candle burning and I felt the bed move and heard a voice call my name and beg me to wake up because I was in danger …. I opened my eyes just in time to stop a fire from spreading… the glass jar to the candle had broken and the wax and wicks had slopped over my bedroom curtains… to this day I still believe this was the guy’s spirit saving me.

Well that’s all for now dolls, hope you are in good health and spirits and that ypu have a great rest of ypur day/night. Remember …. Save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.
