Bioderma….A Heavenly Bottle of Spa Time…..

Published November 23, 2016 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hello spoonie dolls and dish darlings…. Hope all is well with you this evening (or morning if you happen to be in the part of the world where the sun is out and shining).

So about 2 months ago I made an order on Beautilish  and was sent a sample of Bioderma for both sensitive skin and combo skin. I decided I wanted to try it out to find out what all the noise was about.  So glad I did!!!

How darn cute are these sample packets!??

Normally I hold off on telling anyone about a new product I’ve used or in this case an old  product that is new to me. I also never review a product that I haven’t tried out for a few months at least …. hence the reason I only have  1 product reviewed. (2 if you count my review on the Ikea Alex Desk I got a few weeks ago).

I was sitting at my desk a few weeks back writting  out some ideas and lists for things I want to buy to do reviews on and remembered that my makeup had been on all day…

So tired, makeup lasted a good 12 hours …. lipstick is a victim of a bowl of mint chocolate chip…

so I started to get up to go wash off my face and the samples fell off my desk …. was that fate interceding?                                     (All signs point to yes… )

So I took to plunge and I gotta say, damn the French sure know their skin care! I am extremely in love with both formulas .

Did really good… had to rub a bit harder on the eye do to a glitter eyeline… review coming soon on that one too

I will be giving this review in comparison to the Garnier Micellar Water  (I have been using the Garnier one ever since it was released to the U.S. and have also worked with both formulas of this product as well.

Bioderma comes in 3 formulas (for dry, combo, and sensitive skin) and comes  in 3 sizes. (100, 250, & 500 ml) (3.4 , 8.5, & 16.9 oz) and sells for $6.90 to $16.90 through Beautilish . The Garnier version only comes in 2 formulas (all skin types and waterproof) and only comes in 2 sizes (100 & 400 ml) (3.4 and 13.5 oz)  and sells for $3.50 (for the smaller one) and $6.25 to  $8.99 and can be found at most drug stores, Walmart, Target, and Ulta.

The Bioderma brand has this light almost cucumber like scent to it where as the Garnier brand has ,at least to me, an almost polymer type smell to it…. I really do not enjoy the scent of the Garnier one.

Both brands tote claims that they are a no rinse dirt and makeup remover that gently removes product without stripping the skin of moisture.

With the Garnier cleanser I always had to rinse my face, didn’t matter which one I used I always had this sticky residue left over once the micellar water dried and  and always burns my eyes  with Bioderma I didn’t have any residue at all. It left my face feeling refreshed. It felt almost like a face tonic spray  I use to make with cucumber rose and mint. Very light, softly scented, and so calming and I tested it on my waterline – does not sting at all.

With the Bioderma I only needed 1 large cotton rounds as a posed to the Garnier one where I tend to use an average of 6 large cotton rounds. This is in part due to the fact that I use a full coverage foundation (normally) and it does take a second pass to break through all that coverage.

This is where to comparison ends …Lets talk about the 1 thing that is a CON for the Bioderma brand.

When I use the Garnier cleanser I always use witch hazel as a toner to remove the residual remover so I decided to use the witch hazel as a toner only.   When I did this , I did have some makeup still come off … now this could be because it was a small sample sized amount and so I may have needed the cotton pad to be soaked a bit more than I was able to the first time through. Either way I am ok with having to use the witch hazel since I use it as a toner before my moisture routine anyway.

Left is the cotton round that was used with the witch hazel, on the right is the Bioderma cotton pad

All in all Bioderma is a sold choice. It’s a bit more expensive but so worth every penny. It’s like a heavenly bottle of spa time…. and I can’t wait to finish off my bottle of Gernier so I can start buying Bioderma.

Well thanks for peeking in on this spoonie’s makeup bag, and remember spoonie darlings … reserve a spoon for a bit of lipgloss.

Face of the Day

Published November 15, 2016 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll. Hope your day was smooth, pain free (errr… as close to pain free as any spoonie can have) and that you had plenty of spoons to make it through the day.

I have been taking a new dose of my depression medication and it seems to be working for me .  I  have had the energy ( both physically and mentally) to wear a full beat face 4 out of 7 days the past few weeks. (excluding the days at the first of the month when I was still off m muscle relaxers)

So I thought it was damn time that I share a face of the day with you. Remember even when you are having a bad spoonie day, just the littlest of things like a bit of blush, a smear of lip gloss  and mascara could help keep you feeling less depressed , feeling human on the days were , as a spoonie we feel left out or just unaccomplished.

Remember it’s the small things that can make a big difference in how we feel on low days. Even just a spritz of our favorite scent can help.

No flash in Natural Light.

Why yes… that is a face demon… thanks for pointing that out. (😣) ….Wink wink nudge nudge…..
On the eyes:

Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics  ($54)

To set my primer ( I just use whatever concealer I am am using that day) I used PREGAME.

On my transition I chose NUDE  and also on the high plain of the transition area I chose a mix of NUDE & COMMANDO.

High crease I used INSTINCT Low crease I used TEMPTED.

Outer V area I used LETHAL ( I also used in on my lower lash line ).

Urban Decay Naked Smoky  ($54)

2/3 of my lid I used DIRTY SWEET (also used it on the lower middle and lower waterline) .

Inner Corner Highlight I used HIGH .

Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid ($28) in Peach .

NYX Gotcha Covered Concealer  ($5.99) in Medium Olive .

Physicians Formula 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum ($8.60)  in ULTRA BLACK.

It Cosmetics Hello Lashes 5-in-1 Mascara ($24) in the color blackest black for lower lashes and Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara ($23) in Carbon Black  for upper lashes .

On the Brows :

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Duo ($23) in Dark Brown and NYX Micro Brow Pencil ( $9.99) in Espresso .

On the Face:

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation ($39) in Nude and also Natural Beige .

Milani The Multitasker Face Powder ($6.99) in #05 TAN .

Contour I used The Balm Cosmetics Bahama Mama ($20) .

I used IT Cosmetics Vitality Face Disk  (now called Your Most Beautiful You Anti Aging Face Palette  ($38) For my Highlight (Live) Blush (Love) and Bronzer (Laugh) .

On The Lips:

NYX Suede Matte Lip Pencil ($4.00) in the color ALABAMA to contour and line my lips and Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in the color MASOCHIST ($18) .

WOW! When I put all this on I didn’t realize just how much stuff I had on my face (wink wink).

Well … Thanks for taking the time to peek in on this spoonie’s makeup

bag … Until next time I hope the daylight receives you with less pain than the night before, more spoons than ever , and remember to save a spoon for a bit of lip gloss 💋💜💋

Barbie Heads and Hair Monsoons

Published November 15, 2016 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey. Hope the day finds you with plenty of spoons.

So remember when I said I made a lot of changes? Some were health related and some where hair related, gulp …. OK so here’s what I did to my head….

In February  I decided I was a red head

I really enjoyed this color but …

Anyone who lives in Florida can tell ya that the water here is hell on hair color … and it doesn’t help that I hit the pool pretty hard this year. But I also liked the color that my hair lightened to

So much so that i didn’t color my hair again for a long while (from February until October… that’s  a record for me) which gave my hair this amazing chunky  ombre effect …

Didn’t mind it so much, but I had to push it…

So October comes in and I went dark…

This was meant to be a dark denim blue but it looked black unless under direct light

So I decided to color correct and … gulp …. attempt to bleach my own head ….

Color corrected, though could go lighter … enter the weeks of hell …

It was still too brassy so I tempted fate and bleached it again the next day … 😣

Since I was doing a dark denim ombre I was good with this…. or so I thought…

I hadn’t noticed until my hair dried that I was bald in some areas… and the hair rained down like it was monsoon season … on one particularly bad hair breaking day I brushed my hair only to find a barbie head stuck in my brush …. enter the shock you are about to  have . … are you ready to see my new look? … gulp … here we go…

Ohhhh ya baby, yes I did … I buzzed it all off.

I gotta say it’s kind of freeing … saves me time on getting ready, showering, and I don’t have to worry about bad hair days for a while…. or accidentally overdosing on dry shampoo between blow outs.

also am loving the fact that I can make anything I wear and any makeup look appear a little more edgy

And wearing hats in Florida doesn’t mean frizzy hair later 🤗

Hope you enjoyed me poking fun at my hair mistake …. Thanks for taking time to peek in on this spoonies makeup bag, remember save a spoon for a bit of lip gloss 💋💜💋

Who the Hell Woke Up One Morning and Said , hmmm

Published November 15, 2016 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey dolls, how ya been? I’m coming at’cha with a beauty related post …. can you believe it? I know finally the makeup bag gets used!!

So I’m starting by saying I have made A LOT of changes …. guuurrrllll I mean A LOT!

First change, my makeup sanctuary has received a much needed, and much appreciated (thanks babe for the early Christmas present) upgrade.

16-10-16-00-27-15-713_deco

This is how I was set up before I received my early gift from my husband

I loved the way I was set up; however I didn’t have enough comfort  whist I crayolaed my face and I banged the hell out of my knees on a daily. With my station setup this way I also I had to constantly get out of my broke down computer chair to get something from one of the ends of the dresser. This dresser was also so old that the drawers would unremittingly fall on my toes anytime I tried to retrieve something out of them.

16-11-13-20-46-39-539_deco

So hubby took pity on my poor abused toes and knees and bought me an Alex desk from Ikea.

We originally wanted the Alex desk that has the drawers attached, however I

didn’t know that it was officially called LINNMON/Alex Table so when we looked it up to get the location we couldn’t find it …. and so this pretty little desk was the one we purchased. I’m so in love with this damn desk you have NOOOOOOO idea!!!

I didn’t have as much space to work with so I used this really cute lazy susan that I picked up for $3.00 at a yard sale over the weekend and I put all my lippies , foundations, setting sprays, primers, and setting powders on it and that freed up so much space now.

16-11-15-01-53-41-199_deco

I just love this marble lazy susan … I can;t believe they only wanted $3.00 for it!!!

there are some pros and cons to this desk…. this will not be me bitching or whining about my  desk …. I still very much love my desk, I just want to give you an honest review of this desk just in case you are looking to pick one up.

Wait, what are you eye balling? … why yes, yes those are milk crates, I call it my nail station …. awww come on …. that was funny waaaiiittt …. where you going, ok , ok come back here …. I wont make any more bad jokes I promise, well … I hope I promise.

So back to our convo …

Let’s start with cons…… There is less internal storage than that of  the desk with the Alex 5 drawer attached since there is only 2 drawers, which brings me to con #2 ….

the drawers are wide however they aren’t deep enough to store my palettes upright. The only ones that are sized right to store upright are the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. The rest of the palettes that I own I have to lay flat, which takes up a ton of prime real estate.

16-11-15-00-57-15-242_deco

Still building my collection after my declutter at the start of the summer

16-11-15-00-57-37-172_deco

how I have to store my palettes  ( am thinking of getting one of those   ByAlegory Eyeshadow Palette Organizer  things off Amazon )

My last con …. The drawer stoppers … UGH, ok so I do have to bitch about this con.

Who the hell woke up one morning and said , hmmm , lets create an amazing desk and and than make it impossible to open the drawers in said desk…. oh and just for shits and giggles , lets also make it impossible to close again , without smashing one’s fingers in the damn thing.  Again I say …. UGH!!!!

20161115_011838

this is as far as the damn thing opens and as far as it closes …. so my thumb gets smashed sometimes (waaaaaaa!!!)

Now for the pros….

There is plenty of surface space to have some acrylic makeup storage on the desk and still have room for your  laptop .

Pro #2 : since there aren’t any additional storage units under the desk there is so much space for your legs, or to share the desk with someone else wanting to get all dolled up , or to maybe even teach someone else how to do their makeup (always a fun experience for me) .

Pro#3: there is a hidden channel towards the back end of the desk that always you to store your wires so that you can have your laptop, cell phone, flat iron, or whatever you wish plugged in and not have a heap of messy wires everywhere.

16-11-15-01-04-31-394_deco

The price tag is a bit more spendy but it’s a good quality desk that not only is sturdy but so pretty to look at.

Well. Thank’s again for peeking in on this spoonie’s makeup bag ( yes I know this wasn’t a full “makeup” related blog post, but it gets better … just you wait and see) and until next time save a spoon for a bit of lip gloss .

Like An Ant Up Mount Everest

Published July 17, 2015 by aspooniesmakeupbag

2015-07-17-19-47-55_decoToday was a normal pain level type of day and for a spoonie suffering through fibromyalgia that’s like a healthy person saying I’m in pain because a hammer fell on my foot.

The pain level scale is doubled when you have an illness such as fibromyalgia. It is often normal for a spoonie to feel ok and their pain level to be at a number 6.

I was able to actually get out of bed, take a shower, do my hair, and dig out my makeup and get my Crayola on. However with that being said, I still had moments in the day where my energy level seem to all but disappear.

You see when you have one of these invisible illnesses your energy level isn’t like that of a healthy human being. Something as simple as taking a shower for someone with an invisible illness can destroy your energy level for the entire day.

As a spoonie, you tend to not take things for granted. That’s not to say that a healthy person takes things for granted but when you live on the edge of your bed day in and day out for the rest of your life you tend to see life in a whole different light.

We have to plan everything we do down to the very last second of the day to make sure we don’t over do ourselves. So when I tell you that getting out of bed, taking a shower (complete with washing ,deep conditioning and regular conditioning my hair, brushing my teeth and washing my face) , brushing my hair, styling my hair, and actually applying a full face of makeup is a major accomplishment for the day I hope that you can understand that what I mean isn’t that I’m lazy, pampered, or oblivious; but that all those components that a healthy person would otherwise overlook, to someone who is sick this is the equivalent of an ant pushing a walnut up Mount Everest.

Spoonies tend to celebrate the little things that we are able to accomplish because we never know when the day will come that we will suffer another relapse and be completely bedridden with no way of knowing when that relapse will end.

So today as I sit here writing this, fighting back tears, I feel proud of myself because I was able to get up and accomplished what the rest of the world would perceive as mundane tasks.

I may not have run a marathon or even one lap around a standard high school track, but damn it I got out of bed ( tears now streaming down my face), and I got my fleek on. For me, winning the lottery a million times over would never feel as good as something that simple makes me feel.

Thank you for peeking in on this spoonie’s makeup bag. I send you love, acceptance, and strength as you walk this journey, and to all my spoonie darlings out there hang in there babies ,it DOES get better. May today have greeted you with less pain, more happy dances and a never ending supply of spoons. Until next time remember darlings, always reserve a spoon for a little lip gloss. Hello world!

Published July 16, 2015 by aspooniesmakeupbag

2015-04-17-22-00-06_deco-1

Hello, thanks for stopping by. I’m Nita, a 40 something year old spoonie with a fascination of makeup, all things nerdy, Disney, and Zombies.

I’ve decided to start a blog as a way of  first healing my mind, being in pain every waking (and non waking) moment can kill one’s spirit.

Secondly I wanted a way to reach out to the world and hopefully shed light for those on the outside looking in on the various illnesses that make up the spoonie community.

Lastly I wanted a way to show other spoonies (and non spoonies), whatever age you are , that it’s ok to have bad days but there are blessings in everything we go through.

I also needed an outlet to explore my ever-growing obsession with makeup. Those closest to me kept telling me most of my life to go to school and do makeup professionally or teach seminars and while I do love makeup and do feel that I have a knack for it, I just don’t think I have the will to start all over in my early 40’s. That doesn’t mean I can’t still share my love of makeup with the world, from my comfy bed.

So this blog will be my quest to explore who I am, find a purpose late in the game, or shall I say re-purpose, and hopefully reach out to someone in need that may be struggling to cope with being sick or that may be struggling with understanding someone they know who has an invisible illness.

Over the course of this blog You’ll get to know more about me and more about the many illnesses that make up our spoonie family. I will also do reviews of all my passions… makeup , books, topics …ect.  There maybe entries that are just simply me rambling about my illness (to help keep my mind clear and spirit from fading) and there may be posts that are just a quick hello, my goal is to hopefully have you get to know me and me you in return.

If I can reach just even 1 spoonie and make their day less lonely, hopeless, or horrid … well, than my job is done. If I can shed light for just 1 person who is scared and frustrated, and angry, and confused about a loved one who is suffering something they can’t understand … again , my job is done.

Lastly if I can spark an interest for someone just starting out with makeup and who doesn’t know where to start, than …. well you get the idea.

Well, that’s all for now, I just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks for taking a look inside this spoonie’s makeup bag and untill next time too all my spoonie darlings out there , life doesn’t have to be centered on just our illnesses, I hope that today find’s you in less pain and with more spoons, and remember spoonie darlings, ALWAYS reserve a spoon for a little lip gloss.
