October Reads Book Review #1

Hey doll hey! How’s your day/night going? Amazing I hope. I’m doing good. I have a working pain level and am not as fatigued as I ‘ve been.

I’ve finished 2 books this past week and wanted to review them…

Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon is a 464 page YA Dark Paranormal Fantasy published by St. Martin’s Griffin on 5/19/2010 and is the first book in the Chronicles of Nick Octology.

This is a prequel series of the Dark Hunterverse and follows Nick Gautier in his teen years. He  is the squire in training (a sort of non magical familiar that carries out various tasks for their Dark Hunter charge in this case, Kyrian Hunter). Dark Hunters are an ancient warrior who sold his/her soul to the Greek goddess Artemis for a single act of vengeance.

Infinity introduces Nick in his teen years. He gets rolled by 3 kids he thought were his friends and gets rescued by Kyrian and soon becomes his employee to keep him out of trouble. Nick and his friends run around New Orleans trying to save it from a zombie outbreak and along the way Nick learns that there is more to the world than just reality… soon he learns that the preternatural world is real and it sets him on his new path.

I began this book on 9/26/2023 and finished on 10/1/2023 so it took 3 and ½ days for me to finish.

This was a re-read for me and I absolutely love the whole Dark Hunterverse. When I first heard that Kenyon was doing a ya spin off I was skeptical at first, I didn’t think it was going to go well…Kenyon did not disappoint… The Chronicles of Nick octology is perfection… It gives us all the badassery of the Dark Hunter’s realm but from a teen’s perspective. I love that we get more of Nick’s snarky smart ass wit and I love that we get more of Nick’s mom in this series. Nick is just one of those characters that there is no way to not fall in love with him.

I give Infinity 5 out of 5 ⭐.

I have read this series over and over…. I just simply love the Dark Hunter storyline.

She’s Gone by David Bell is a 386 page YA Suspenseful Thriller that was published by Sourcebooks Fire on 11/1/2022.

This book follows a 17 year old named Hunter Gifford who while driving home from homecoming with his girlfriend, Chloe Summers, ends up in a serious car accident. He wakes up in the hospital and learns that his girlfriend is missing and the only trace of her is her shoes, purse and her blood.  We follow his journey to find his girl and figure out what happened.

I purchased this one in print at Barnes and Noble and I did start this one on 8/13/2023 but misplaced it so when I did find it I started it over.

I started it again on 9/22/2023 and finished it on 9/29/2023 … it took 4 days to read.

The book as a whole was well written and flowed at an even pace. There were many times that I thought I knew how the book was going to end and then other times when I just was super clueless… It was a nice soft thriller but there was one chapter that sort of gave the ending away… at least for me… as soon as I read it I knew who did it and what they did, to an extent… I didn’t know why until the end but I just knew what happened. I did enjoy reading it. It wasn’t the greatest thing I ever read but it was a good read and I’m happy to read another David Bell book, in fact I’m thinking of purchasing his book Never Come Back.

I give She’s Gone 3 out of 5 ⭐.

I only gave it 3 stars because I was able to figure out who and what too early in the storyline.

Well that’s all I have for now dolls. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day/night and that you are in great spirits and health.

Save a spoon for a bit of lipstick 💄.
