Published April 30, 2020 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey!! How’s your day/night going? Great I hope.
I woke up this morning and found out BeBeautifuls nominated me for another Sunshine Blogger Award!!! I feel so blessed right now.
When I started this blog I never imagined in a 1,000 years that I would receive such amazing recognition from my peers. Thank you so much BeBeautifuls for thinking of me. It’s amazing to received recognition from such an amazing content creator!!

Seriously dolls … You must check out her blog she does all things beauty but she also does other content … you will never get bored!

The rules
Thank the blogger who nominated you in the post and link to their blog
Answer the 11 questions asked of you
List the rules and include the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post
Write a new list of 11 questions for your nominees
Nominate 11 bloggers for the Sunshine Blogger Award

My Questions
1. What is your favorite place ?
Disney World is my favorite place… It holds such nostalgic reverie for me. We went every year when I was a child and then my husband and I had our anniversary there and then went back 2 years later. Once we moved to Florida we went several times but haven’t been in sometime. My illness got worse and I just can’t make it around the parks as easily as I once did. Once I purchase a mobility scooter we plan to start going again.

2. What do you love to do in free time?
I research the latest makeup trends and newest makeup products. I also love to read and watch movies in my free time.

3. What are your favorite colors and associated style ?
Colors: Purple, Blue, Pink, and sometimes Green (but it has to be Kelly green).
Style: I love laid back comfy and cozy clothes. I also really love sophisticated chic.

4. What was the biggest surprise of your life?
Falling in love with my husband. It was a world wind right from the start and I met him at the lowest point of my life …. I didn’t expect to fall for him because he is much younger than me but from day 1 he swept me away.

5. If you get to live with one thing what it would be?
If you mean food wise … I would have to say Pasta.

6. What is your dressing preference ?
Because of my auto immune illnesses I chose comfort over style … My go to looks are a pair of yoga pants or a pair of joggers and a comfy tee-shirt or my favorite sweaters.

7. What was your favorite movie in 2019?
Hmmmm this one is tough for me: I’ll break it down into genres

Horror: Polaroid

Drama: Just Mercy

Romance: Sunrise in Heaven

Thriller: Fractured

Action: 6 Underground

Fantasy: Avengers End Game

Indie Film: Tony Morrison: The Pieces I Am

Documentaries: Don’t F**k With Cats Hunting an Internet Killer

Comedy: Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral

8. What you hate the most?
People who are intolerant of other cultures

9. What was the thought behind starting up blogging?
Honestly My hubby created this blog for me as a surprise. I have always loved makeup but felt that I was past my prime for YouTube so I would make little videos just for me and my family to see but he thought I should share my passion of both makeup and helping people understand Fibromyalgia with the world … so here we are several years later.

10. What did you learn on yourself during lock down?
That I can do things out of my comfort zone without fear. For example … I started sharing videos on TIKTOK without fear that someone will be mean …. I also reached out of my comfort zone and started trying new recipes in the kitchen.

11. Who is the pillar of strength in your life?

First and foremost my Lord and savior…. then My husband… he keeps my head above the water even when I don’t think I can go any further.

The 11 questions I would love to ask are:

1. If you could go back in time and visit with 1 pivotal person in history who would it be and why?

2. If you could have any super power what would it be and why?

3. Since quarantine what has been your go to show to watch?

4. Have you learned anything new during this quarantine such as a new craft or skill? If so what is it?

5. What is your favorite movie of the past 10 years?

6. What is your biggest pet peeve?

7. What is the last book you’ve read?

8. If you could live anywhere else in the world where would you live and why?

9. What are some of your favorite traditions from your country?

10. Where do you want to be in the next 5 years? For example : I would love to own my own home within the next 5 years.

11. If you could be any Super Hero which 1 would it be and why?

I nominate the following bloggers

Lynn from Peculiar Blegian

Blanca from Beauty and More

Didi from Didi’s Not So Secret Diary

Pooja from Life’s Fine Whine

Arlene from That Girl Arlene

Mariana from My Cup of Three

Once again I would love to thank BeBeautifuls  for nominating me for this award.
With that said … that’s all dolls … I hope the rest of your day/night is a great one.
Remember … Save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

Sunshine Blogger Award

Published April 29, 2020 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hey doll hey!! How’s your day/night going? Great I hope.

I’ve been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by an awesome lifestyle, beauty, and fashion blogger called Isabelle of Outfit of the Day Blog. She is witty and very fashionable … she does these really cute outfit of the day posts that I simply can’t get enough of.

I feel very honored to be nominated for this award and want to offer a thank you to Isabelle for thinking of me.

The rules
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you in the post and link to their blog
2. Answer the 11 questions asked of you
3. List the rules and include the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post
4. Write a new list of 11 questions for your nominees
5. Nominate 11 bloggers for the Sunshine Blogger Award

The 11 questions I’m to answer :

1. What’s your favorite food?
This one is a hard one for me… I’m a huge foodie so I love heaps of things … but if I had to whittle it down to 2 things I would have to say gnocchi and chicken bastilla.
2. What type of cuisine do you like the most?

Again super hard to chose since I’m a natural foodie at heart but I would have to say, if I had to choose it would be a toss up between  Italian and Moroccan cuisine are my most favorite …
3. Which is your favorite season?
Spring is my favorite season. I live in Florida and the Summers here are brutally hot and I can’t handle the cold weather because I have Fibromyalgia and it gets exacerbated by cold weather. The Spring in Florida is sublime, just the right temperature and it’s not the rainy season so that’s a plus.

4. What are your daily activities?
I start my day by double cleansing my face (if I haven’t had a shower the night before, which I prefer to showering in the morning since it helps my muscles relax more, then I will do my first face cleanse and complete my second face cleanse in the shower)
I then apply all of my skin care products and whilst they are settling in to the skin I make breakfast for my mother and start to prep dinner for the day.
I then sit down at my makeup vanity and go through Instagram for inspiration for my next makeup look of the day.
Once my makeup is finished I will take the pictures for my blog post and walk out to check the mail and sit down and have a cup of coffee (decaf of course since caffeine triggers my restless leg syndrome).
When that’s done I will normally sit down and do my daily blog post.
I take an hour of devotional time with my Lord and Savior
I then of course check out the newest blog posts of my favorite bloggers and I give myself 1 hour to read whatever book I am currently reading. While I’m reading I will normally will do the laundry. I sometime will work on some sewing projects or knitting projects if I have any going at the time.
* Before the lock-down I would maybe go to one of my favorite makeup stores or the local fabric shop to get some things *
By then it’s time to get dinner started and so I will prep dinner and whilst that is cooking I will do some light exercise … normally I work out on my Elliptical machine. I can’t do it for too long because it takes a lot out of me since I have Fibromyalgia .
After feeding my mother (and husband if he is home early from work) I will check out my social medias (Facebook, Instagram, twitter, and TikTok) and then I will settle in and watch some Netflix.
Depending on what time my hubby is working till I will spend some time talking about his day (I don’t have much of a day because I’m a stay at home wife and caregiver for my mother, and I am disabled because of my Fibromyalgia and RA).
By this time it’s normally time for bed so I will do my first face cleanse and then hop in the shower and do my second face cleanse and my hair treatments as well as wash up.
I then do my my night time skin routine and settle in to first give thanks to my Lord and Savior for the day and then I read from my book for a little while until I get sleepy and I might even watch a few more TikTok videos ….
My life is pretty mundane because I can’t really do much with me illnesses

5. What are the 5 things you can’t live without?
Time spent with God, Hearing my hubby say he’s proud of my for trying something new, being able to read a good book, my morning coffee, and spending time with loved ones.

6. Do you have a favorite person, who is it?
I try not to love 1 person more than another so I don’t have a favorite person in my real life (well outside of my husband of course)
7. What series do you binge watch on Netflix?
Currently I am binge watching Forensic Files and Money Heist. I hop around from show to show a lot because I love movies and shows.
8. What do you love the most about blogging?
The ability to share my passion for makeup and my illness and the response from people who read my blog… getting to meet some many new amazing bloggers who give me feed back on my work and getting to see how other bloggers flourish and getting to just shade my truth with as many people that care to stop by and take a look.
9. Which topics are your favorite ones to write about?
My struggle with Fibromyalgia, Ways to help my fellow spoonies cope with this illness, and Makeup of course.
10. What effect does the corona virus have on your life?
Honestly my life hasn’t changed that drastically. With my illness I tend to stay close to home as much as possible to make it easier for me to manage my symptoms.
It has impacted our finances, as I’m sure it has for many people. I don’t impulse buy makeup anymore … I schedule my purchases on a monthly bases and when I see something extra I use to be able to just purchase it , now I’m more careful and only purchase enough to produce some new content for my blog.  I do feel a bit panicky when I go outside now, since I’m auto-immune I have to be super careful to minimize my chances to contract this virus … so I get scared going out, where I use to get excited to leave the house. I worry for our world and those who are sick more … I feel saddened that so many have lost their lives and so many more are suffering without anyone to care for them…. In short … It has cause my anxiety disorder to work overtime.
11. What do you miss the most during these corona times?
I miss having the ability to interact freely with people …. now a days it’s hard to have a conversation with someone else because of social distancing. I miss being able to visit friends. I miss shopping frivolously for beauty products and my crafts.

I nominate the following 8 fellow bloggers: I’ve nominated these individuals because they are simply put amazing! They create amazing content and keep me coming back for more week and week….
1. Bonnie from Queen of the Girl Geeks   because I love her Bath and Body Works hauls and her who could ever resist a geek when you yourself are also a fellow geek?
2. Mimi from Blushy Darling because I simply love her content! I truly do … she does really good Makeup Mondays.
3. Deidre from Retro Dee simply because she is freaking amazing and endearingly quirky.
4. Joanne from Find Away By JWP because she has got amazing taste! I just love her outfit of the day and get the look posts
5. Vivian from V Beauty Talk  because she is my go to for all things K beauty.
6. Orentenimi from Orente Cares because she is classy and stylish and her makeup looks are seriously on point. She has amazing advise and hacks … I look forward to each post she puts out.
7. Diane from In Diane’s Kitchen because her blog posts speak to my foodie sole! She puts out such yummy posts and let me tell you they have single-handedly kept me sane during this lock-down … I have tried many of her posts out for myself.
8. Ernestine from Time With Ernie  because she has amazing content. She has a few blog posts on I believe it’s emotional intelligence that is outstanding. She’s just a lovely person.

Now it’s time for my 11 questions:

1. What is your all time favorite movie and why?

2. What made you decide to start a blog and how have you grown because of starting it?

3. If you could have a 5 course gourmet meal with anyone in the world, past or present who would it be and why?

4. Have you learned anything new or tried something new during this Corona Lock-down? If so what?

5. What is your spirit song? What I mean is … what 1 song when you hear it helps you fight your way through the day and why? (for instance : I have 2 Mine are: Broken and Beautiful by Kelly Clarkson- because it reminds me that with my fight with Fibromyalgia I don’t need anyone to fix me, I’ve got this all by myself …. I can get through it and I will not back down on that…. And my second one is Fight Song by Rachel Platten – because when I feel like I just can’t deal with the pain and the exhaustion, and isolation of this illness, when I’m close to my breaking point… I play this song and it reminds me that I am stronger than I even know I am and it makes me dig deeper inside and pull myself up out of the pit that I’m in.)

6. What is your favorite sweet?

7. If you could have 1 wish to change any 1 thing that has happened in the world what would it be and why?

8. What’s your favorite holiday?

9. What’s your favorite animal?

10. If you could go back in time and give your younger self 1 piece of advise what would it be?

11. What’s the first thing you will do for yourself when this Corona virus lock-down is over?

Well dolls that’s all from me … Once again I would like to thank Isabelle for the nomination.

I hope you all have a great rest of your day/night and that you are in great spirits and health.

Remember dolls … Save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

What is the fanciest, most exquisite dessert you’ve ever tried?                                  Tirramisu from this little hole in the wall family owned Italian resturant called Deleon’s from Philladelphia, PA. 2. If you could swap your current diet for a specific country/region cuisine for one week, which would you pick? Next to Italian cuisine, Moroccan cusine is my favorite style … I can cook Italian food pretty well but have never attempted to do Moroccan food… so that’s why I choose Moroccan Cusine as my answer.

I don’t typcally eat breakfast and when I do it’s normally something small.

4. If you’re hosting a family and/or friends gathering, what dish is an absolute ‘must’ on your dinner table? Would you prepare it yourself or let your guests help? There are 2 that every one always asks me to make…. #1 My Puerto Rican lasagna (which is called Pastelon) and #2 My version of Pasta e Fagioli

Olaplex Hair Care Review

Published December 12, 2019 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hi dolls! Hope you are having an amazing day. The day has FINALLY arrived! I received all my Olaplex hair care products.  My hair was in dire need!!! Thanks for sticking with me through all the bad hair days. Let’s jump into the review. Let me remind you what my hair looked like BEFORE I treated myself to my Olaplex routine.

My hair freshly blown out before Olaplex.

Yikes!! I know, I know …. horrid isn’t it?

Let’s start with what Olaplex is…  It’s a line of hair repair products that helps re-bond your hairs structure. It’s particularly helpful for people with dry damaged hair from bleaching and color treating.  If you remember a while ago I posted about how I destroyed my hair with bleaching and had to shave my head because clumps of hair was falling out. What I never told you was that the hair that grew back was brittle, broken, and dry.

I started using Olaplex around the time that my hair grew into a cute pixie, and I haven’t stopped since.

I am obsessed with the Olaplex No. 3. I didn’t know until late November that there was a whole system that you could buy.  I am so glad I found out. My hair hasn’t looked better in years!!!

I start by washing my hair with No4 – Bond Maintenance Shampoo ($28 for 8.5 fluid ounces). It is billed as being a product that  Protects and repairs damaged hair, split ends and frizz by re-linking broken bonds. A highly-moisturizing, reparative shampoo that leaves hair easy to manage, shiny and healthier with each use. What I do is shampoo my hair with a plum pit sized dollop on No4, but I leave the shampoo in my hair until I’m done with my shower, I don’t know if it really matters or not but I think it strips all the junk from my hair better this way. Then I rinse and towel dry my hair.  I use a plum pit sized dollop on No3 and work it into my hair. It is billed as a treatment, NOT a conditioner that reduces breakage and visibly strengthens hair, improving its look and feel. Normally I leave it in for 30 minutes, but today I only had enough time for 10 minutes. I comb my hair with a shower comb and then rinse my hair out. I wring my hair out and use No5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner ($28 for 8.5 fluid ounces). It is billed the same and says that it Strengthens & leaves hair stronger than ever. I let it sit in my hair for 5 minutes and then I rinse my hair completely out.

Now because I have curly hair I use an old tee shirt to dry my hair instead of a towel. I put my hair up in the tee shirt and while that’s soaking up some of the water I put my serums and creams on my face. Then I use No6 Bond Smoother and No7 Bonding Oil. I take a quarter sized dollop of No6 Bond Smoother ($28 for 3.3 fluid ounces) billed as A leave-in reparative styling creme eliminates frizz, hydrates & protects all hair types, strengthens, hydrates, moisturizes and speeds up blow-dry times while smoothing (it also says it eliminates frizz and flyaways for up to 72 hours, I just started using this so I don’t know for sure if it helps with fly aways yet)  and 5 drops of No7 Bonding Oil ($28 for 1 fluid ounce), billed the same way and also says that it Provides heat protection of up to 450°, this is good because when I do flat iron my iron is set at 410, and mix them together in my palms, then I run it through my hair from mid shaft to ends, concentrating on my ends since this is where my hair is the driest.

Then I put my hair up into a bun and do my makeup. When my makeup is done it’s time to work on my hair.

I blow dry my hair using a Bore’s hair brush and then I press my ends with a flat iron (this step isn’t needed as my hair will always be straight and silky when I use No6 and No7, but I do it because I want to make sure my ends stay straight.

I typically do this to my hair 2 times a week (except this week because I had to wait for my new products to arrive) and I wont have to straighten my hair at all during the week. The products typically last me between 4 to 6 months (sometimes I have to use more product because my hair is so dry and damaged that there are times that it needs a bit more TLC). I paid total $112.00 plus shipping.

So now for the big reveal…..

My hair after Olaplex treatment, just blow dried out.

I did not use my flat iron today because I’m in too much pain to use my flat iron.  I have some breakage at the crown of my head so I have some fly away hairs. I am still on the hunt for something that will help with the fly aways.

My hair feels smooth, nourished, and healthy.

I give this product an A+++!!!  The shampoo and conditioner have a fresh scent , not perfumed like basic shampoos and conditioners. No3 has a familiar scent that I can’t place, but it’s not overly perfumed.

No6 & No7 have a nice natural scent.

Final Thoughts….

The Olaplex system is well worth the splurge. The bottles are no frills, just a plastic bottle with a plain label. At first use you can tell that the people at Olaplex spend their over head on the quality of their product.

I would recommend this product to anyone who’s hair needs to be revived. I’ve noticed that I loose less hair in the shower now, my hair has gotten stronger and happier too.

Well that’s all for now dolls,

Remember save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

Hello world!

Published July 16, 2015 by aspooniesmakeupbag

Hello, thanks for stopping by. I’m Nita, a 40 something year old spoonie with a fascination of makeup, all things nerdy, Disney, and Zombies.

I’ve decided to start a blog as a way of  first healing my mind, being in pain every waking (and non waking) moment can kill one’s spirit.

Secondly I wanted a way to reach out to the world and hopefully shed light for those on the outside looking in on the various illnesses that make up the spoonie community.

Lastly I wanted a way to show other spoonies (and non spoonies), whatever age you are , that it’s ok to have bad days but there are blessings in everything we go through.

I also needed an outlet to explore my ever-growing obsession with makeup. Those closest to me kept telling me most of my life to go to school and do makeup professionally or teach seminars and while I do love makeup and do feel that I have a knack for it, I just don’t think I have the will to start all over in my early 40’s. That doesn’t mean I can’t still share my love of makeup with the world, from my comfy bed.

So this blog will be my quest to explore who I am, find a purpose late in the game, or shall I say re-purpose, and hopefully reach out to someone in need that may be struggling to cope with being sick or that may be struggling with understanding someone they know who has an invisible illness.

Over the course of this blog You’ll get to know more about me and more about the many illnesses that make up our spoonie family. I will also do reviews of all my passions… makeup , books, topics …ect.  There maybe entries that are just simply me rambling about my illness (to help keep my mind clear and spirit from fading) and there may be posts that are just a quick hello, my goal is to hopefully have you get to know me and me you in return.

If I can reach just even 1 spoonie and make their day less lonely, hopeless, or horrid … well, than my job is done. If I can shed light for just 1 person who is scared and frustrated, and angry, and confused about a loved one who is suffering something they can’t understand … again , my job is done.

Lastly if I can spark an interest for someone just starting out with makeup and who doesn’t know where to start, than …. well you get the idea.

Well, that’s all for now, I just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks for taking a look inside this spoonie’s makeup bag and untill next time too all my spoonie darlings out there , life doesn’t have to be centered on just our illnesses, I hope that today find’s you in less pain and with more spoons, and remember spoonie darlings, ALWAYS reserve a spoon for a little lip gloss.
