Cover FX Custom Cover Drops Initial Review

Hi dolls. Hope all is well with you.

Today I will be reviewing the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops ($29 at Ulta, Sephora, and the Cover FX website).  It comes in 30 shades, 9 of which are for deeper skin.

On the Cover FX website these products are billed as liquid pigments that weightlessly blend with your favorite products to adjust your shade.

This product can be mixed into a moisturizer to create a tinted moisturizer. It can be mixed into a BB cream to add coverage. It can be added to another foundation to add coverage.

2 1/2 years ago, when I first started using the drops, the bottle was black and it was bigger than the one that is sold today.

The original bottle

The formula was thicker and the shade was a bit darker and more of a warm tone.

My color in the old formula

The new bottle is clear and smaller.

The new formula and bottle

My shade in the new bottle and formula is lighter and more neutral.

The drops were always $29 but in the black bottle there was 115 mL and .5 fluid ounces, but the new bottle only has 7.5 mL and .25 fluid ounces.

Although no where on the Cover FX website does it say the formula is different I feel as though it has changed. When I use the older bottle with my face cream the coverage is flawless and resembles a BB cream but when I tried my new bottle of the drops today with my face cream there was no coverage and my skin felt extremely greasy.  Now this could be for several reasons. I tried a new primer today that was terrible and so it might not play well with my face cream. I might need to add more drops to the new formula. Or it could be that since the new cover drops are a better skin match for me I might just be seeing the face cream shine through more. Or lastly it could just be that it’s a thinner formula and so it doesn’t work well with my face cream which is very emollient.

Older version on the left and newer version on the right…. same amount of drops on my skin,

I prefer the formula on the black bottle more than I prefer the formula on the new bottle, but the color on the new bottle is spot on for my skin tone. I think I will try the new one with my primer tomorrow to see if it works better that way because I truly do like the tone of the new one.

Also the new formula is more dewy and not as matte as the older one is.

For now the Custom Cover Drops gets a solid C- because it just didn’t work out today.

I’ll do a follow up tomorrow when I try it with my primer.

Well that’s all for now dolls.

Remember save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.

XOXO
