Brown & Green Eye Liner Face of the Day

Hey doll hey! How’s your day/night going? Great I hope. I’m still recovering, still have no energy and I hadn’t intended to do makeup today but I saw this incredible YouTube video by the Dubai makeup artist named Hindash. The video is entitled How To: Brown Colorful Eye Liner where he takes a brown liner and creates a wing and then he takes a super pretty duo-chrome pigment and places it in the middle of the eye liner to create this beautiful halo looking gradient liner and I just simply had to try it. I don’t think it turned out so bad for my first attempt, however I didn’t have a blue to match and decided to try a green duo-chrome instead and I also realized after my liner was on that instead of using a pencil liner like Hindash uses in the video I had used cream gel liner …. it didn’t come out half as beautiful as what Hindash created however I truly did enjoy the process of this look and I really did like the final outcome …. I plan to recreate this look again tomorrow, except I will be using a brown liner pencil and I will try and locate a different duo-chrome pigment to use that hopefully will recreate his look better.

I have to say I’ve only been following Hindash for a few weeks but he has this natural incredible talent that just speaks to my inner makeup spirit animal.

While this look is so other worldly beautiful, because of the shadow I chose as my liner topper, it doesn’t photograph well so I have included a few close up shots of the eyes ….

Today I am wearing Silver Coast Body Spray by Good Chemistry (it’s a body mist I picked up at Target, it’s a target exclusive brand, when I went back up North over a few summers ago to visit my baby sister). I will be reviewing a few of my new ELF products in Final Thoughts. Well … let’s jump into today’s Face of the Day.

Base:

I primed my face using NYX Angel Veil Primer ($16 at Ulta) and then I prepped my pores with Tarte Clean Slate Timeless Smoothing Primer ($39 at Ulta). I also used the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter ($44 at Sephora) in the shade 3. For foundation today I tried out the new ELF BEAUTIFULLY BARE Foundation Serum ($8 on their website) in the shade Fair/Light. I contoured using the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand ($38 at Sehora) in the shade Medium/Dark. I highlighted the high points of my face using the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Light Wand ($38 at Sephora) in the shade Spotlight. I bronzed the perimeter of my face and the bridge of my nose using Tarte Breezy Cream Bronzer ($29 at Ulta and Sephora) in the shade Grace Bay. I color corrected my under eyes using the ELF Color Correcting Stick ($4 on their website) in the shade Dark Circles for Light Skin Tones and then concealed my under eyes using Il Makiage F*uck I’m Flawless Multi-Use Perfecting Concealer ($26 on their website) in the shade 2.5 and then I set the under eyes using Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder ($28 at Ulta and Sephora). I set the bronzer using ELF Primer Infused Bronzer ($6 at Ulta) in the shade Constantly Bronzed. I set the rest of my face using ELF Halo Glow Setting Powder ($8 on their website) in the shade light. For today’s touch up powder I am using Milani Conceal & Perfect Shine-Proof Powder ($10.99 on their website) in the shade 02 Nude.

Eyes:

I set my brows using the soap brow method. I filled in my brows using the Joah Brow Down to Me Precision Brow Pencil ($9.50 on their website) in the shade Black Brown and then used a light layer of the ELF Wow Brow ($4 at Ulta) in the shade Deep Brown. I carved out my brows using my BH Studio Pro Brow Highlighting Pencil ($5 on their website) on the matte side and then prepped the rest of my eye lids using the P.Louise Base ($10 pound sterling/ $12.08 USD on their website… can also be found on the Morphie website for $15) in the shade Rumour 0.5. For today’s eye look I used 6 of my ColourPop single shadows ($4.50 each on their website). I started by setting my brow line using a combo of the shades Hear Me Out (white peach – matte) and Let Me Explain (ivory – metallic). I also used Let Me explain as my mobile lid shade. For my crease I used the shade Pretty Please (cool taupe – matte) and then enhanced the outer part of the crease using a light bit of the shade Wake Up Call (warm sand – matte). I then took the ColourPop Creme Gel Colour ($6 on their website – but the shade I used was limited edition) in the shade Stew (warm dark brown) and used it on the inner 1/3 of the upper lash line and also along the lower lash line (which I buffed out with more of the shade Wake Up Call to soften the line). I then took the Inglot Gel Liner ($19 on their website) in the shade 90 (deep brown) and created a wing on the upper lash lines connecting it to the inner 1/3 liner. I then took more of Stew and created a cat eye for the inner corners. I then took the shade Tea Garden (duochrome red with a green gold flip – metallic) and tapped that over the liner starting where my lashes naturally start at the inner corner of the eye and ending just before the lashes end at the end of the mobile lids. I then buffed the liner brush with what ever was left on the brush over the inner and outer part of my lash line to soften the line of delineation of the shade Tea Garden. I then took more of Tea Garden and buffed that over the liner on my lower lash line and then took the shade Ringer (champagne – metallic) and highlighted around the cat eye point in the inner corners. I lined my lower waterlines using Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘N’ Kohl Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil ($27 at Sephora) in the shade Eye Cheat (beige). I used 1 coat of Makeup Revolution The Mascara Revolution ($10 at Ulta) for both my upper and lower lashes.

Cheeks and Lips:

For my blush today I used NYX Bare With Me Jelly Cheek Color ($10 on their website) in the shade Coral Dream and then set that with ELF Primer Infused Blush ($6 at Ulta) in the shade Always Peachy (a light coral based peach). I touched up my highlighter with the Too Faced Born This Way Turn Up The Light Highlighting Palette ($42 at Ulta and Sephora) in the Light color way and using the shade Glow. I lined my lips using ColourPop Lippie Pencil (this shade is only in the Big Box of Lippie Pencils Vault – currently out of stock) in the shade Oh Sis (smoked paprika) and filled in the center of my lips using MAC Amplified Lipstick ($19 at MAC and Ulta) Blankety (Soft Pink Beige). I then topped off my lips with a bit of ELF Lip Lacquer ($3 at Ulta) in the shade Fantasy (nude).

Final Thoughts:

I grade this one a loose B- : It’s billed as a weightless silky formula melts into skin for a radiant and youthful-looking glow. The luminous, dewy finish helps boost suppleness and minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines for flawless coverage. It comes in 5 shades (2 for deeper skin tones). While this shade is spot on for my skin tone and is weightless (as it should be since it’s a SERUM foundation) none of the other claims are valid. This isn’t a radiant, luminous, or dewy finished foundation at all. At best it’s a demi-matte finish. It’s light coverage, buildable to low medium coverage. It sort of just sits on top of the skin never truly sinking in. Now, this could be because of either the primer I used or the fact that I reapplied my sunscreen before I applied my base products. However, it could also just be that this isn’t a truly good serum based foundation. I will have to try it again with a more hydrating and glowy primer to see if that makes a difference. Perhaps I will try it again tomorrow and see how I feel then. For now… this foundation just didn’t wow me. It’s just an OK low medium coverage demi-matte light weight foundation with nothing really to show for it.

I grade this one a solid B+ : It’s billed as being able to instantly help correct and neutralize color imperfections. The creamy formula melts into skin for seamless blendable coverage. Infused with Vitamin E to help hydrate the skin. The peach color helps to illuminate and conceal dark circles or hyper-pigmentation. The green color helps to reduce redness like that from Rosacea, sunburns, or blemishes. The lilac color helps brighten sallowness or yellowness for a healthy-looking glow. While the peach shade did in fact cancel out the light dark circles under my eyes and the slight hyper-pigmentation on my upper lip (I had stopped my skin care routine for about a week 1/2 do to being ill so the brightening that the Niacinamide was doing was now starting to reverse some) and it was a tiny bit creamy it was hard to buff into the skin seamlessly at all. It’s worth noting that this is also no where near close to being hydrating what so ever. In fact, it actually made my under eyes super crepey. Now again, this could be do to the primer I used and it could be do to the fact that I reapplied my sunscreen prior to doing my base makeup, however, I remember swatching this one annd thinking it was hard to blend into my hand and it felt a bit stiff. It’s worth also noting that this one is thick and you really can feel the weight of it on the skin, however it doesn’t sit on top of the skin it does sort of melt in to the skin. I think I’ll try this one with no primer under my eyes with a bit more eye cream first and see if that helps this corrector work better. I really was hoping I had found a truly affordable color corrector … for right now I’m not sure this is the one for me.

I grade this one a solid A- : This one is billed as a long-wear, lightweight concealer that instantly covers under-eye circles, blemishes, dark spots & hyper-pigmentation that is omfortable, lightweight, and long-lasting wear with medium-to-high buildable coverage. This one comes in a whopping 30 shades with 10 for fair, medium, and deep skin tones. This one is in fact a comfortable lightweight and long-lasting however it is no where near medium to high buildable coverage. At best you will get low medium coverage and I do not see this one covering hyper-pigmentation or dark circles on it’s own. I’ll test this out again to see if it can be built up to at least high medium coverage and see how well it does to combat the dark circles without the aid of a corrector.

I grade this one a solid A : This one is billed as a long-wear, matte bronzer infused with lock on primer powder to ensure a full day of bronzed, sun-kissed glow that is smooth and easy to apply, while adhering to the skin for long-lasting wear. This bronzer is very easy to apply and is super pigmented (a very light hand is needed or things will go wrong real fast). This is a very long wearing bronzer, but this is a very heavy orange based bronzer … there isn’t enough red in this one to ever look truly sun kissed and for that I can’t grade with one higher that an A.

I grade this one a solid A+++!!!!: It’s billed as a silky, weightless texture that drapes the skin for a dreamy, blurring, soft-focus finish. Created with finely-milled synthetic sapphire particles to give your skin a soft glow, help smooth the appearance of fine lines, and blur imperfections that is formulated to keep shine at bay and ensure makeup looks and feels fresh throughout the day. DOLLS!!!!! I think I have found a truly affordable dupe for my beloved Too Faced Born This Way Ethereal Loose Setting Powder !!!!! This loose powder is so pretty and buffs into the skin so beautifully!!! Out of everything I’ve purchased from ELF in the past few months THIS is my all time favorite product! I loved it so much that I promptly placed an order for 2 back ups just in case it goes out of stock. This powder doesn’t look like I’m wearing any powder at all and has this healthy glow to it. It blurred my pores and fine lines and didn’t cling to the rough patch I have on my forehead (again I’ve missed my skin care regimen for about a week 1/2 and am in desperate need of exfoliating and deep mask treatments). If I could only recommend 1 product to you from their line …. THIS WOULD BE THE ONE!!!!

I grade this one a solid A+: This is billed as a long-wear, matte blush infused with lock on primer powder to ensure a full day of perfectly placed blush that is easy to blend, perfectly pigmented for ease of application, and grips your cheeks like second skin. It comes in 7 shades of which I own 4. Again this is a very long wearing product that buffs into the skin beautifully. It’s not super pigmented but I like that, it allows me to be able to build up the intensity of the color to how much I want it to be instead of being locked into what the creator wants it to be. These blushers are so good.

I grade this one a solid B+: This one is billed as providing maximum color and brilliant shine. Formulated with Vitamin E to moisturize lips. Perfect for wearing alone or layered over lipstick for a bold lip statement. It comes in 10 shades, of which I own the clear one and Fantasy. Whilst I love the clear Lip Lacquer (I tested that one whilst I was getting ready today to keep my lips hydrate) the one in Fantasy just doesn’t seem to be of the same formula. Some how it feels thicker and stickier and doesn’t last nearly as long as the clear one did. Worth noting is that Fantasy is almost clear in color with just a hint of mica shimmer to it so I can’t a test to the claim that you can get maximum color shine. I can say that without a doubt this one is no where near hydrating, in fact my lips felt dry and sticky after using both the clear and the nude and, at least for the nude one, it is so short time wearing that I found I had to reapply this product every 20 or so minutes. I think the only way to use this product would be if I apply a lip balm first so that my lips don’t end up feeling so tight once the lip lacquer wears off. I chose to grade it a B+ solely based off my experience with the clear one, because that one lasted all through my makeup application process and I ended up having to remove it to apply my lip products. It may just be that there is mica in the Fantasy shade and so it will be a bit more of a drier formula but I just don’t see myself wanting to reach for this one often and I will definitely not be purchasing other shades… save for the clear one … in the furture.
